Paolo Sebastian Gowns Dominate At 2013 TV Week Logies Awards

2013-Logies-Australian designer Paul Vaslieff continues to cement his mark on the Australian fashion scene, as six Australian personalities graced the red carpet of the 2013 TV Week Logie Awards in Paolo Sebastian gowns.

Paul worked closely with Ada Nicodemou, Melanie Vallejo, Natalie Barr, Gracie Gilbert, Georgie Gardner and Michelle Bridges to create magnificent custom made gowns for the event.

“When designing gowns for the Logies I’ve created pieces that could just as easily be worn to the Oscars,” says designer Paul Vasileff. “I hope when any woman attends an event in a Paolo Sebastian gown she feels like Hollywood royalty.”

Ada Nicodemou – Home and Away / Please Marry My Boy

adaHaving designed gowns for Ada previously, Paul was thrilled to work with the actress again for the Logies in 2013. “This time Ada left a lot up to me,” says Paul. “She has a great eye for detail, and is quite the fashion enthusiast, so when Ada said she was willing to be more fashion forward; I was excited by the opportunity to go all out.”

The nude gown is made completely of the finest French Chantilly lace, which includes heavy crystal accenting and beading embellishment, which was completed by hand. The sheerness in the lace gives the impression there isn’t anything apart from the plunging neckline, however, Paul has include a signature Paolo Sebastian corset to keep everything hidden in the right places. The fullness in the fishtail still manages to look light, as she floats down the red carpet.

Melanie Vallejo – Winners and Losers

melWorking with Melanie for the very first time was a delight for the 22 year old designer, who says Melanie was very involved in the design process. “Melanie was a joy; she knows what she likes and what works well for her body shape. We choose a charcoal lace which was heavily worked with hints of rose gold pearls and crystals,” says the designer.

The Romanesque skirt wrapped around Melanie’s body and accentuated her curves perfectly. “We strategically balanced out the dramatic plunging ‘V’ and low cut-out back with a longer sleeve,” says Paul.

The actress said she was so excited to be wearing Paolo Sebastian to the Logies this year. “It’s always thrilling to work with young talented designers and it’s a bonus to be wearing a creation from my home town of Adelaide.”

natNatalie Barr – Sunrise

Natalie’s Grecian inspired column gown included the signature Paolo Sebastian corset and belted at the waist to accentuate her great figure.

“I worked closely with Natalie’s styling team to create a new look for her, while ensuring she maintained her signature grace on the red carpet,” says Paul.

The intricately beaded and embodied lace was used throughout the gown, from the boat-neck through to the draped skirt. “Natalie was glowing in the cinnamon shade, which worked perfectly with her hair, eyes and skin tone.”

Gracie Gilbert – Underbelly Squizzy

gracieInspired by her new role in Underbelly Squizzy, Paul worked with Gracie to create a gown which reflected the 1920s costumes from the new series.

Ensuring the gown was still modern; Paul included a plunging sweetheart neckline, which framed her petite figure meticulously, in a spectacular black French beaded lace. Whilst the slinky black fish tail skirt was constructed of a heavy silk faille.

“Gracie is so beautiful and it was such a pleasure working with the amazing actress. I can see dressing her for the Oscars one day, as she goes from strength to strength as an actor,” says Paul.

Georgie Gardner – The Today Show

The hand beaded silver lace detailing descended from the shoulder and up wrist.

“When I found this fine lace I knew it would work best for Georgie, as it brings out her beautiful blue eyes like nothing else,” says Paul.

Michelle Bridges – The Biggest Loser

michelleWorking with Michelle for the first time was very exciting for Paul. “Michele was great; she was as excited as me to create a super feminine gown,” says the designer. “She was a breeze to work with and provided great input, whilst trusting me to incorporate design elements she had never tried before.”

“I wanted to create an illusion with the lace, so we strategically placed it on her skin, as it ascended up her shoulders.” The black Chantilly lace was worked with corded embroidery and used through the entire gown, down to the full skirt. “We choose this particular lace because I was able to cut out each piece and sew it by hand to contour it around her tiny waist,” says Paul.

Michele was very keen to work with Paul, also. “It’s not always easy when you have a specific body shape as I do, so I felt we would work well together,” says Michelle. “I met with Paul to discuss the design and colour and I instantly felt at ease with him. We wanted something soft and feminine… I’m so thrilled with what we’ve chosen. It’s just perfect! Paul is a genius! My dress is elegant, feminine, and simple and yet has a little bit of an edge to it which suits me. I feel amazing in it and I can’t wait for it to be seen.”
