An exceptional line-up of opera and ballet productions from London’s Royal Opera House, Paris’ Opéra National and Milan’s La Scala will be screened in all capital cities in the Palace Opera & Ballet 2016/17 cinema season, commencing Friday 28 October 2016.
19 operas and eight ballets feature in the new programme, which runs until August 2017, including some of the international opera and ballet circuit’s most highly anticipated new productions of the coming year. Australian audiences will see these productions only weeks after they are filmed live on stage.

From London:
Amongst Covent Garden’s six new-season Royal Opera performances, will be three brand new productions: Bellini’s Norma starring soprano sensation Sonya Yoncheva (the first presentation in the 2016/17 Palace Opera Ballet season); Jonas Kaufmann’s highly-anticipated role debut in Verdi’s Otello conducted by Antonio Pappano; and Mozart’s Così fan tutte directed by Jan Philipp Gloger in his Royal Opera House directorial debut. The six Royal Ballet screenings include Wayne McGregor’s 2016 Olivier Award-winner Woolf Works , Peter Wright’s classic The Nutcracker and the return of Marius Petipa’s The Sleeping Beauty.
From Paris:
Five new Opéra de Paris operas, and two ballets from the acclaimed Paris Opera Ballet will screen direct from Opéra Bastille and Palais Garnier. New productions included are Saint-Saën’s Samson et Dalila from director Damiano Michieletto; Rimski-Korsakov’s The Snow Maiden starring Aida Garifullina; Rossini’s La Cenerentola from César Award-winning director Guillaume Gallienne; and a new Paris Opera Ballet production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream from choreographer George Balanchine with sets and costumes by fashion legend Christian Lacroix. A must-see will be Robert Carsen’s spectacular staging of The Tales of Hoffmann with Jonas Kaufmann and Kate Aldrich.
From Milan:
Palace Opera & Ballet will present eight new-season productions from Italy, the birthplace of the art form, including five from Milan’s La Scala, the most famous opera house of all. New productions include Diana Damrau and Carlos Álvarez in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro ; Maria José Siri in the rarely staged original version of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly ; Rossini’s The Thieving Magpie from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Gabriele Salvatores in his La Scala debut; and choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti’s new take on Coppélia starring Roberto Bolle.
