Online Success For Peppermayo Boutique

Former Adelaidians Georgia Wright and Huayi Huang are currently taking the online shopping world by storm with their online boutique ‘peppermayo boutique’.

They are enjoying the quick rate in which the online shopping world is expanding, with statistics indicating that that the most popular items shopped for online are clothing and accessories. Online shopping is a rapidly evolving trend, promising high volumes of sales to retailers and a world of opportunity to the buyers.

I recently had a chat with former Adelaide resident, Georgia Wright to find out a little bit about her and partner, Huayi’s business. Georgia describes peppermayo as an online boutique stocking ladies clothing and accessories.

“Before starting peppermayo in Sydney, Huayi and myself, originally came from Adelaide. I moved to Sydney to pursue my love of graphic design and to branch into the industry. I landed myself a fab job at Yaffa Publishing – who is responsible for such titles as Women’s Health. Huayi had just finished his law degree and was then working for a small Sydney law firm. After a while working at these jobs we started selling clothes on eBay. After selling clothes on eBay seemed so successful, in August 2012 I decided to start the Facebook page “peppermayo boutique” – this page grew and is still growing much beyond my expectation. It was due to the amazing growth and how much time it was consuming that after a while we both resigned from our jobs to focus all our energy onto our own business and now here we are – 4 employees later, a huge warehouse and more clothes than I could ever imagine.”

What vision did you have for peppermayo when you were first starting it up?

Honestly, I started peppermayo as I have a massive love for fashion and a never ending wardrobe. I started the store to earn a bit of extra money while working full time and as time has gone my visions have grown and grown.

Have you succeeded in your aims for peppermayo so far?

Definitely and exceeded them – if you spoke to me one year ago I could have never imagined I would be a ‘boss’ and owner of a successful online fashion boutique – it’s so exciting!

The amount of likes our Facebook page has grown by is amazing, peppermayo boutique is also new to Instagram and the amount of followers on there are also growing faster than I thought.

Originally we were working from our studio apartment in Paddington, then we moved into a two bedroom apartment in Zetland and now into our own 250sq warehouse – this is all in less than a year!

What are the advantages of having an online boutique instead of a physical shop?

I think being able to communicate with the customer at all hours is a major factor – if someone wants to order a dress at 9pm Tuesday night we will reply to this person straight away and have it shipped as soon as possible.

Who shops at peppermayo?

Females aged anywhere from approximately 15 to 40.

What labels does peppermayo stock?

We aren’t a hugely label focused store we stock more ‘fast fashion’ at affordable prices however we do stock American makeup brand – Lime Crime and Adelaide brand ‘Casper & Pearl’ which we love to pieces – great to see Adelaide success stories.

What price ranges are available at peppermayo?

Our prices range from as cheap as $10 for accessories to $200 for our highest end dress by Casper & Pearl.

How would you describe this season’s fashion?

This season monochrome is popular, as are tunic dresses as well as leather. Personally I love leather – I would wear it all the time if I could.

What is your best selling product?

We have a product called the ‘Nirvana Kaftan’ which is our best seller to date – we have re ordered this style 7 times and sold over 600 pieces.

What is your favourite look this season?

I’m all for leather this season and oversized knits.

Any advice for people considering starting up an online boutique?

There is a lot of competition out there so customer service really is the key.

What are your future goals for peppermayo?

At the moment we are looking at setting up our website which will hopefully further expand the store.

Like peppermayo boutique on Facebook to check out their huge variety of ladies fashion and accessories.
