New South-East Asian Canteen a Stand Out on Prospect Road

The new kid on the block has taken us to Thailand and we can’t stop raving about the mouthwatering food they’re cooking up

It’s almost as if Sunny’s Shop has been plucked from the bustling streets of Thailand and plonked perfectly in Prospect. The new kid on the block has been wowing customers and we had to take a peek!

Anyone who’s travelled to South-East Asia will feel right at home. Walking into Sunny’s you can’t help but smile. The eclectic mix of colourful stools, makeshift crate tables and exposed timber are all beaming with authenticity.

Owner Aaron says, “The shopfront was brought over from Bali, and it’s the real deal from the 70s. While the patterned tiles are direct from Thailand”.

Slinging street side eats till 9pm. ✌🌺😄🌴

Lunch at Sunny’s has already been drawing the crowds for authentic on-the-go favourites like Bahn Mi, Cold Rolls and Vermicelli Salad. But, we’re eager to try the newly launched dinner menu. The sticky Slow Braised Beef Cheek was tender and drenched in a mix of sweet soy and five spices. Anise and cinnamon were abundant! We recommend ordering this with a side of Vegetarian Fried Rice.

But, who could go past the Pad Thai? I mean, forget the watered down versions we’re used to and treat yo’ self to the real deal. Also, be sure to try the Stir-fried Crispy Pork Belly. The “big” meals are great for sharing so, don’t be shy to order a bunch. The Larb Gai salad is made up of minced chicken meat, lime and chilli dressing. It’s light and SUPER refreshing. Perfect for breaking up some of the other richer dishes.

While seating is limited inside, there’s plenty of atmosphere out front and down the side laneway. Otherwise, Sunny’s has teamed up with UberEATS so you can kick up your heels and bliss out from the comfort of your own home.

Alas, Sunny’s is waiting on a liquor license but the perfect beer garden is on the horizon. Guess we’ll just have to come back! It’s a hard life huh.

Check out Sunny’s Shop at 106B Prospect Road, Prospect. Their Instagram is also pretty drool-worthy.
