The other day we reported on the Guitars In Bars initiative rolling out over Winter across the city as part of the Adelaide Guitar Festival. And that’s not all Adelaide will be doing musically this winter.

You see, Adelaide was recently announced as a UNESCO City Of Music, which at the time raised a few eyebrows because it seems the shoe didn’t quite fit. But those of little faith can will taste a delightful rebuttal courtesy of a music explosion happening across this winter, set to feature over 200 live performances across 60 different venues. From July 15 to August 7, get ready to immerse yourself in Umbrella: Winter City Sounds.

Highlights of this new two week city wide festival will include a daytime hip-hop mini festival from The Hilltop Hoods’ label Golden Era Records and hosted by Ted X darling and beatboxing sensation Tom Thum called The Warm Up, the first appearance outside of Victoria for Melbourne’s hugely successful Tram Sessions, exclusive never before heard compositions by virtuosic future-jazz wizards Ross McHenry, Adam Page and Matt Sheens at Grainger Studios as well as karaoke with a live band for kids at The Gov called So You Think You Can Sing Along.

Guitars in Bars will also feature as a partnership with The Adelaide Guitar Festival that showcases guitar-driven entertainment in local venues. On top of utilising current and traditional venues unconventional spaces will be play home to tailored events as well including the Adelaide Zoo, the infamous Z Ward, city carparks, Adelaide Railway Station for commuters, Rundle Mall for shoppers and more.
