New Adelaide Event Spreads the Word

WordAdelaide_Matt-LucasAdelaide’s newest festival was launched today by Events SA, announcing English comedian Matt Lucas (pictured), of television’s Little Britain fame, as its headline act.

Word Adelaide will be held from 15-18 August 2013, exploring the power of words in hip hop, poetry, short stories and more.

Lucas will share the Adelaide Entertainment Centre stage with comedian Kitty Flanagan, Emeritus Professor of Language Roly Sussex and bassist Guy Pratt who has played for Pink Floyd, Robert Palmer and Icehouse.

Other highlights of the festival will include Gary Kemp from Spandau Ballet looking at Words Without Music, which discusses the lyrics to the band’s world-famous songs. Emerging and established MCs are invited to enter the festival’s Freestyle MC Competition, the largest open rap competition in the world, offering a $10,000 winner-takes-all first prize.

Comedian Joel Ozborn is already taking registrations for people to get on their soapbox in the Rundle Mall precinct, with a writing competition and other events also inviting the general public to get involved.
