Armed with material from her incredible new album The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love YouNeko Case will make her long awaited return to Australia this March for the first time since January 2010. Supporting Neko at all headline shows will be Darren Hanlon, with his wonderful mix of folk-rock and memorable pop hooks.

Anti- released Neko Case’s first album in over four years, The Worse Things Get… to wide critical acclaim in September 2013. The Worse Things Get… is Neko’s most precise, urgent record to date, marked by a melodic immediacy, a loving embrace of the big rock gesture, and a lyrical frankness typified by first single Man, in which she warns, “I’m a man… you’ll deal with me directly.”

“My brain wilderness is more dense and dangerous than I thought,” says Case. “It was an embarrassing and hilarious march, but I now feel like a more streamlined being. It’s a good feeling. Four years of my life took ten years hostage, then gave me back twelve.”

Case’s 2009 album Middle Cyclone was the best-reviewed and fastest-selling of her career to date. It debuted at #3 on US Billboard Top 200 and earned two Grammy nominations.  NPR hailed Case as “one of the most memorable and seductive voices in music” while The New York Times Magazine said “her voice is a force of nature” and Rolling Stone USA called her “indie’s greatest singer.”

Canadian electro-pop outfit Austra arrive in Australia this week to perform at the Perth Festival and sideshows in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide! Supporting in both Melbourne and Sydney will be electro punks Buzz Kull, who will be joined by Angie in Sydney (Circle Pit, Straight Arrows), and rounding out the Melbourne line up will be Promise Land, featuring Johann Rashid (Home Travel, Eastlink) and producer Harmon. Opening the evening in Adelaide will be local trio Flamingo and the heavy synths and duelling vocals of Cabin Cults.

Austra were one of the smash hits of the 2012 Laneway Festival, stunning fans and newcomers alike with their esoteric blend of soaring vocals and riveting art-punk musicality. At that point they only had their 2011 debut album Feel It Break to draw material from in the live realm, but earlier this year they dropped its acclaimed follow-up, Olympia, and Austra’s stocks have skyrocketed astronomically in line with the ensuing buzz. Reviews of both Olympia and the shows from the subsequent heavy touring schedule have been resoundingly positive, sharing stages all over the world with acts the caliber of The xx, Grimes and The Gossip.

Austra’s near-operatic vocalist and primary songwriter Katie Stelmanis has concocted an incredibly personal and heartfelt batch of songs for this second album – although the socio-political bent of their early work is still proudly on display – and as well as expanding Austra’s membership from four to six she’s also broadened the scope of their sound into multiple facets of the dance world without relaxing their grip on what made them so vital first time around.
