The National Wine Centre (NWC) has won three prestigious awards at the 2014 Restaurant & Catering SA Awards.

The Centre’s Executive Chef Philip Pope was named SA’s Best Chef at the award ceremony held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Monday night (August 4).

The Hackney Road Centre was also named Caterer of the Year and the Best Function/Convention Centre.

NWC General Manager Adrian Emeny said Pope’s award recognised his talent, leadership and hunger for creating the highest quality, contemporary menus.

“Philip has carved a reputation as one of Australia’s most innovative and highly regarded chefs,” Mr Emeny said.

“He is a champion of South Australia’s finest produce and his passion for food and his commitment to pushing the traditional boundaries of flavours and ingredients make him a leader in the industry.”

NWC Executive Chef Philip Pope was honoured to receive the high accolade.

“It’s a proud moment because I work hard but there’s also the people who make my job a lot easier and I credit them for the win,” Pope said.

The three awards continue a stellar year for the Centre following two awards at the Australian Hotel Association (AHA) SA Hotel Industry Awards for Excellence last month and the Centre being named Australia’s Best Specialty Event Venue at the Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) Industry Awards in May.

This year the Centre has also made a significant investment in its long-term offering, including its new state-of-the-art Wined Bar that offers the largest tasting experience in Australia.

“The Centre is going from strength to strength this year and the latest awards are yet another string to the Centre’s bow,” Mr Emeny said.

Opened in 2001, the NWC is a showcase for wine tourism and a premier conference and events facility offering five-star services.
