Myer has teamed up with Mattel to re-release the first ever Barbie Doll from 1959 – the famous Black and White Swimsuit Barbie – for a very special promotion.

To celebrate, Myer has 500 of the Original Barbie to sell to customers priced at the original 1959 price of $3.00 RRP – that’s cheaper than a cup of coffee!

The lucky first 100 customers will be able to visit one of the five participating Myer stores this Saturday 11 April when doors open at 9am and take advantage of this incredible offer.

The participating Myer stores offering the first 100 customers the Original Barbie at the original price of $3.00 RRP are:

• Myer Melbourne City Store – Level 4, Emporium Melbourne, 287 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne
• Myer Sydney City Store – Level 6, 436 George Street, Sydney
• Myer Brisbane City Store – Level 3, 91 Queen Street, Brisbane
• Myer Adelaide City Store – Level 2, 22 Rundle Mall, Adelaide
• Myer Perth City Store – Level 2, 200 Murray Street, Perth
When the first 100 Original Barbie dolls sell out at the original $3.00 RRP then customers will still be able to purchase the Original Barbie for $34.95 RRP.
Myer Chief Merchandise & Marketing Officer, Deputy CEO, Daniel Bracken said of the re-launch: “Barbie is a true icon and one of a handful of toys that transcends generations.
There is a real nostalgia around Barbie that passes down from parents to their children and I think all of our customers – big kids and little kids alike – will love that we’re bringing back the Original Barbie to Myer, with her cool retro style that everyone can enjoy.
We’re expecting a lot of interest especially as 500 lucky Myer customers around the country will be able to purchase the Original Barbie at her original 1959 price of $3.00.”
The re-release of the Original Barbie is modelled on the first ever Barbie which was launched at the New York Toy Fair in 1959 and went on to launch an iconic brand with a huge following around the world.
With her famous ponytail hairstyle, eye-popping black-and-white bathing suit, stylish open-toed shoes, too-cool white shades and golden hoop earrings, the Black and White Swimsuit Barbie is sure to delight a new generation of little girls eager to play with fashion’s most famous doll.
“The original Barbie doll remains an iconic image for the brand but not one we readily reproduce, so when we wanted to create something special for Australia this was a natural choice.
The original doll was an enormous success, selling out quickly and creating an immediate demand for more and in fact, today Barbie is the number one girl’s toy brand in the world,” adds Evelyn Mazzocco, General Manager and Senior Vice President, Barbie.
