Mum vs Son in the Great Royal Adelaide Showdown

It’s that time of year again, Show time! Two words, which can strike equal amounts of dread and joy into our hearts. If however you check your humbug at the door and conjure a bit of Peter Pan spirit, it will take but a moment to be enveloped in the wonder that is the annual Royal Adelaide Show.

From the 5th-14th of September the Royal Adelaide show will celebrate 175 years of happiness. Looking over this year’s program it’s a far cry from the Show of my youth, when ‘super sippers’ reigned supreme. As a mum now, what strikes me the most is how much the Show has grown with us, and this year more than ever the Show has something for everyone.

If there is one thing synonymous with the Show it is the SHOWBAG, the moment when parenting skills are truly put the to the test. My 6year old son and I were given the thrill of becoming “Official Show Bag Testers” today, a title my son took very seriously. In true form his top picks are a couple of the new bags, set to be sellouts, How to Train Your Dragon and Avengers Assemble $25ea. We both agreed Tweens will love the new Adventure Time bags and the word from the Sydney Easter Show was DB Cosmetics and Pepa Pig George were big hits, so get in early for these.

I haven’t much been into the grown up showbag thing, but I will this year! Sukin Organics have put together an incredible Pamper Pack. At $25 with over $108 worth of products, it’s stella value. Not forgetting the sweet tooth’s, our pick here is easy, support local; you can’t go past the Menz FruChocs bag $48 worth of value for only $15. But don’t just think about leaving with a showbag, support the fabulous work of Foodbanksa (www.foodbanksa.com.au) and “bring a bag of food to help end hunger”, bins will be available at the entry gates.

With so much to do this year here are our “Mum vs Son”, top program picks:

Son’s top picks
