Australian singer, songwriter and two-time ARIA award winner, Monique Brumby is bringing her new music to The Wheaty this Saturday night.
The indie rock artist and producer had a top 40 hit with her debut single, “Fool for You” in the mid nineties.
17 years on and Brumby has many experiences, life lessons, memories and five albums under her belt
The new self-titled album is reflective of her first release, Thylacine and is emotionally charged with autobiographical elements.
“Silent War”, a beautifully haunting electro rock fusion is accompanied by a video, featuring burlesque star Sina King, which is as much fun as the singer says she had making it.
‘”Silent War” is about my feelings on same sex marriage and wanting the Australian government to recognise same sex unions as a marriage.’
‘The video was shot at the Hawthorn Arts Centre in Melbourne and is about showing the celebration between same sex unions. It features Sina King who’s a great dancer but we just wanted to bring some fun and some light and colour into the clip,’ she said.
As well as writing music, studying sound technology and recording albums, Brumby has also been working with young people, which she finds rewarding.
‘I run a music program in Victoria for young people with chronic illness. The young people see their own mortality from a different perspective; they have a lot of insight and a lot of empathy so they’re very inspiring people,’ she said.
As well as working with youths, Brumby has been producing for new Australian artists and has been particularly hands-on with the production of her new record.
And to celebrate the release of the self-titled album, Brumby is hitting the road to tour around Australia, stopping off in Adelaide to play the Wheatsheaf Hotel on the 28th June.
‘I always like getting on the road. The thing I’m looking forward to most is playing the gigs, connecting with a live audience, expressing and sharing ideas, and getting inspired. I’ve played at the Wheatsheaf before. It’s a great venue. I really like it,’ she said.
