Christmas is a special time of year to remember and honour the memory of loved ones passed.

A mini chamber concert series involving various ensembles will be held at South Australia’s largest cemetery as part of Centennial Park’s first Christmas Tribute this month.

It will also include a 12-foot high Christmas tree that can be adorned with personal tributes as a commemoration to those family members who are now at rest.

South Australian families, friends and children are invited to attend Centennial Park’s Christmas Tribute, which will commence at 6pm on Tuesday 16 December.

Members of the public can enjoy a mini chamber concert series to be held within four different areas of Centennial Park’s memorial gardens. Timing and location details are as follows:

  • 6.00pm-6.25pm – Harp and Violin (Medika / East Fountain Garden)
  • 6.30pm-6.55pm – Brass Quintet (Weeping Rose Garden)
  • 7.00pm-7.30pm – String Quartet (Jubilee Forecourt)
  • 7.35pm-8.00pm – Vocal Ensemble (Norman McLeay lawns, near Christmas tree)

People will have the opportunity to place a personal tribute on the Christmas tree, which will be situated on Centennial Park’s Norman McLeay lawns.

Handmade peace doves (made from recycled biodegradable fibres), embedded with forget-me-not flower seeds, will also be available for visitors to take home and plant.

Light refreshments will be provided at an outdoor alfresco area with tables and chairs set up near the Jubilee Complex. Families are also welcome to bring along their own picnic hampers.

“Christmas is a significant occasion that brings together families and friends,” Centennial Park Chief Executive Officer, Mr Bryan Elliott said. “It’s also a time to remember and reflect on the lives of those who are no longer with us.

“Centennial Park is a special place where people can remember and celebrate the lives of their loved ones. We pride ourselves on creating a beautiful setting so those coming to reflect on the life of a family member can do so in peaceful surroundings.

“Our upcoming Christmas Tribute is an opportunity for all South Australians to come together and pay tribute to family and loved ones in a special and meaningful way. We look forward to bringing together people of all ages for what will be a memorable and touching tribute at this time of year.”

Centennial Park is SA’s largest cemetery. Set on 40 hectares of parkland, the cemetery has more than 50 individually themed gardens.
