Love to RideLove to Ride is a fun, free competition to encourage more people to get on their bikes. It’s on now and runs until 23 February. Participants only need to ride for ten minutes to be eligible to win some great prizes.
Previously known as Tour De Work, the challenge involves organisations competing against each other to see which workplace and departments can get the most staff to ride a bike. Individuals can also take part – anyone who lives or works in the participating council areas is eligible to win prizes.
Adelaide City Councillor Megan Hender said that Love to Ride Adelaide is a fun way to get people riding.
“If you already ride regularly to work or Uni, encourage your workmates or fellow students to participate so they can rediscover the benefits of cycling.
“It’s not about who can cycle the furthest or the most often, but who can encourage the most people to give cycling a go.
“You can ride anywhere, anytime – during the day with workmates, in the evening with friends or on the weekend with your family. “More people cycling results in reduced congestion, reduced impact on the environment, improved health and improved community well-being, so why not hop on your bike and give it a go?”
This year, cyclists with a competitive edge can challenge their friends or workmates to a virtual ride of the Tour De France, or a virtual ride around New Zealand or the UK. There will also be ‘try-a-bike’ sessions where people can borrow a bike or bikes can be brought to participating workplaces.

Other sessions cover learning the techniques of riding a bike and how to navigate traffic.

There are lots of fantastic prizes on offer, from cinema tickets to bike gear. Love to Ride Adelaide is run by Adelaide City Council in partnership with City of Burnside, City of Charles Sturt, City of Norwood, Payneham and St Peters, City of Unley and City of West Torrens. People who work or live in these council areas are eligible for prizes.
