The Ultimate Adelaide Father’s Day Guide

If your old man loves a bit of special treatment, you’ll need a proper event to toast him in style. Here’s a spread of things happening for Father’s Day across Adelaide.

Well, it seems Father’s Day is this weekend, and if you’re anything like me, you haven’t organised a thing. Luckily there’s a stack of great businesses around Adelaide who are making things easier for us – with some gift ideas, lunches, events and more – all perfect for dad.

 

FEED DAD WHILE YOU ENJOY THE PERKS

Arkaba Hotel. Spoil dad with a delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner at the Arkaba. Beresford House Tasting Pavilion. Celebrate this Father’s Day in the stunning surrounds of Beresford House at McLaren Vale. Feast on gourmet pizzas, cheese boards and beer flights in either the Tasting Pavilion or on the lawns of the estate. Coopers Alehouse. You can spoil dad and celebrate Father’s Day at the Alehouse. Breakfast is from 9:00am – 11:30am, before their all day menu starts at 12:00pm – 9:00pm. Hill of Grace Restaurant will be open for a special Father’s Day lunch – providing an exquisite lunch package for $95 per person. Dads can enjoy shared entrées, a choice of main course, side dishes, dessert and a glass of Henschke wine while looking out over Adelaide Oval’s hallowed turf.  Children aged 12 years and under are priced at $35 per person (with special children’s menu). Hoosegow. Hoosegow Charcoal Restaurant and Bar has a special meal deal for Daddio. This delicious meat plate for one, includes lamb loin cutlets, pork belly slices with spicy tamarind sauce, signature chilli chicken with jalapenò aioli, spanish chorizo, fat chips and mojito salsa OR smoked spicy tomato relish. Plus, serving their A-la-Carte menu – yum!

Melt Henley Beach. This Father’s Day Melt is doing a chef’s selection share table at $35 per person for lunch and $45 per person for dinner and a children’s menu at $25 per child.

Mercato’s Porchetta Father’s Day Dinner. This yummy feast lets you celebrate your papa for only $65. You’ll get coal roasted porchetta over coals as part of a 3-course shared dinner. Included is a welcome drink on arrival and a café ‘corretto’ (espresso with a sneaky splash of Grappa or Anisetta) for Dad with dessert. Kids under 13 eat for $15.00 and they’ll receive a pizza or pasta, custard and a juice. You can get your tickets here.

Riverside, InterContinental. Head to the Riverside Restaurant this Father’s Day and along with their normal offering, they also have a delicious platter of smoked ribs, which you can enjoy along with a glass of tap beer for $30. The Colonist. Head to the Colonist for breakfast from 9am-3pm (yes 3pm! Dad can have his sleep in!), lunch from 12-3pm and dinner from 5:30pm-9pm. There will be all day menu items and foraging plates from 3pm – 5.30pm. Enjoy a steak sandwich with a pint of Young Henry’s Newtowner Pale Ale for $30, or check out their $10 cocktail list during happy hour from 3-5pm. It includes Aperol Spritz, Blood Orange Margarita, Italian Bitters Negroni and Espresso Martinis. The Mile End. If you’re looking for a more casual Father’s Day, head to The Mile End. It’s open for all day dining from 12-9pm, with happy hour from 2-6pm with $7 pints of tap beer and $1 off wine by the glass (excluding house wine). There’s also $10 selected cocktails 2pm-6pm and live music 3pm-7pm with Gab Hyde.

The Settlers Tavern. Enjoy a Father’s Day buffet breakfast, or lunch and dinner in the Settler’s bistro. Buffet breakfast will be from 9:00am – 11:00am. Adults – $17.90 and kids – $10.90. A la carte will be available in the bistro, plus Dad will receive a FREE gift when dining in the bistro. To book call 8263 1077.

The Stirling Hotel. Book now for Father’s Day at the Stirling Hotel’s dining room. Enjoy a four course menu for only $60, designed to share with dad, plus $7 Big Shed Brewery pints all day.

The Unley. This one comes with a branded stubbie holder for every day! Pop along to The Unley which is open from 12-9pm for all day dining on Father’s DAy. They’ve got food and drink specials, a Father’s Day Ala Carte Menu, Happy Hour 2pm-6pm with $7 pints of tap beer, $1 of wine by the glass, selected $10 Cocktails & $20 cocktail jugs.

Twenty Third Street Distillery, Renmark.  Take a tour of the distillery, enjoy regional grazing platters, gourmet pizzas and tastings of their prime spirits and range of craft beers. Complimentary beer tasting flights for all Dads, must be pre-book. HE WON’T WINE ABOUT THIS!

Barossa Valley Gourmet Weekend. This food and wine festival runs the entire weekend, and there are so many different experiences to choose from. Tickle your tastebuds on the assortments of gourmet food and mouth-watering vinos. There’s plenty of family-friendly activities, adults only events, live music sessions and cooking demos, plus so much more.

Beyond The Vine Wine Tours. There are so many different tours to choose from. You can take father-bear on a ride to Langhorne Creek, McLaren Vale, the Barossa Valley, the Adelaide Hills or a mixture of multiple. Fox Creek. Show your Dad how much you care and surprise him with a relaxed day in our beautiful Fox Creek Cellar Door Gardens. Bring a chair, rug up and enjoy some delicious wood-fired pizzas. S.C. Pannell Wine Lounge. Take Dad out to this relaxing and stunning location, and lounge by the fire with a drink in hand and enjoy a food truck speciality along with music and vinyl by DJ Es’Ay – soul, funk, reggae, blues n roots, beats, breaks, classics and all things good. The day starts from 1:00pm and goes until 4:00pm, and is completely free.

EXPERIENCES WITH DAD

Adelaide Oval RoofClimb. Let Dad discover a side of Adelaide that he’s never seen before on an Adelaide Oval RoofClimb. Take in the atmosphere of the iconic Adelaide Oval while enjoying views of the city and Riverbank precinct. Absorb the skyline and stars from Adelaide Oval, as this activity can also be done at twilight! Add an extra thrilling adrenalin rush by leaning out 50m over the ground tethered only by a harness, and you’ve got yourself a Father’s Day activity the whole family can enjoy together.

Arkaba’s Sporty’s Bar. For those football fanatics over 18, you can take dad to watch the Arsenal vs. Cardiff City game and sit back with a few bevvies and pizza, fries and onion rings. Event and BBC Cinemas are gearing up for a pint-sized takeover this September and October with the introduction to their spring school holiday program. Father’s Day Sail – Treat Dad to the first day sail of the season! Get him on board the deck of STV One And All, and take the opportunity to have the same experience as thousands of sailors across the ages. Get involved in setting the sails, helm at the wheel with the Captain, climb into the bow nets, or alternatively, sit back, relax and soak up the atmosphere. MARVEL 10 Year Anniversary, Hosted By Hoyts. This anniversary film festival celebrating the great creation that is the Marvel world, and would be a fun way to celebrate with Dad. The epic line up of Marvel Studios films will be in season for a limited time only with daily screenings starting from Sunday August 19th until September 15th. The Royal Adelaide Show is the perfect place to take Dad this year. There are so many fun things to do from entertainment, delicious food and wine, carnivals and showbags, animals and petting zoos, plus plenty of competitions to take part in. Gates open from 9:00am, and tickets can be purchased here.  

The South Coast Wine Train. YES! There’s a wine train, and it has a trip planned for Father’s Day. The South Coast Wine Train offers two options – leaving from Adelaide city or departing from Mount Barker – and then the fun really begins. Once you arrive in Mount Barker, guests step aboard the SteamRanger Southern Encounter (AKA the South Coast Wine Train) and travel via heritage train past the eucalyptus trees and through the rolling hills of the Mount Lofty Ranges to arrive at Strathalbyn. Travel via coach the short distance to the vineyards of Langhorne Creek and arrive at your first winery for the day. Be guided through a tasting of wines in an informal, relaxed approach with our wine host and cellar door staff. Enjoy a 2 course lunch at a local restaurant  and take the opportunity to sample a glass of wine from the region. After lunch you will visit your second winery for the day, once again being educated by the friendly cellar door staff.
