Rossanne Pellegrino is an Adelaide artist who now works and lives in London. A quick trip to Adelaide to exhibit her photographic work at Max Dawn Gallery was also a time for friends and family to gather and celebrate her work, alongside other art lovers, in a relaxed ambience.
Pellegrino’s work capture’s the built environment in flowing movement, as an organic mass becomes a series of waves, gently distorting and bringing the architecture alive.
Her works vary in subdued or bright colours. Her works are Lambada coloured prints on archival paper. (Lambada is a type of high quality digital printing). By Cobblestone Streets is a most powerful work showing a bicycle with a wavy back wheel leaning against a wavy brick wall. Choose This Door, has a special letter opening, which may be a symbolic invitation of the choices one makes in life along the way.
Jo Kerlogue, as her alter ego, Nonchalant Sally, exhibits astute skill in hovering between drawing and painting. Her images of layered greys, white spaces, ink, Texta and acrylic on Hahnemuhle paper form multiple layers of energy, leaving the viewer to extract more and more information, uncovering story lines, whispers and connections. The works under glass, especially, have a graphic quality with its minimal reds and orange colours used as accents highlighting the illustrative skills of Kerlogue’s work.
The Max Dawn Gallery is an intimate white space gallery with stairs leading up to two studios. It’s a contemporary space suited either for a solo or a shared exhibition.
