Emma Hack Wows The Adelaide City Council

2Emma Hack’s exhibition, Eden, will open in the Adelaide Town Hall and Art Pod this Thursday September 18th as the crowning glory for the inaugural Adelaide City Council Emerging Curator Program.

Eden will feature works from throughout the artist’s long-term practice in the art of trompe l’oeil, as well as exciting new works.

As part of the exhibition, the Adelaide Town Hall and Art Pod will become surrealist escapes from reality – magical places where beautiful, concealed bodies emerge and recede from elaborate floral motifs.

Adelaide City Council, General Manager, City Culture and Community Services, Sandy Verschoor says the final exhibition for the season will be one that people will not want to miss.

“We are very pleased to be working with Emma Hack and are proud to be supporting local artists. We are expecting her unique works to be extremely successful,” said Sandy.

“Emma has been branching out from the body painting that made her name to collage and textiles that feature in this exhibition.”

The Art Pod is a high profile, high traffic art space that showcases the city’s emerging and established artists in up to 6 exhibitions over 12 months, curated by the Emerging Curator.

This city-central art space allows artists to create and activate the city, delighting unsuspecting audiences and contributing to the evening economy, the Adelaide Town Hall and new Public Art in the city.

Conveniently located at the bottom of the Adelaide City Council building at 25 Pirie St, Adelaide, the Art Pod is only a hundred metres from the Adelaide Town Hall where people can view the main exhibition Monday- Friday from 9am- 5pm.

Carollyn Kavanagh, the outgoing Emerging Curator said she had always planned to close her year’s program with Emma Hack.

“Emma’s work became critically acclaimed from the music video for Gotye’s hit ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ and her work is so unique that it is being recognised all over the world,” Carollyn said.

“This exhibition will be a perfect way to conclude the first year of the Art Pod.”

The exhibition will run until 14 November, 2014 and will be opened by General Manager, City Culture and Community Services, Sandy Verschoor as well as Patrick McDonald, Art Editor, The Advertiser with a keynote speech by Dr Jonathan Trent, NASA scientist and biofuel specialist.
