Let The Spring Cleaning Continue: The Pantry Edition

Turn your pantry into something that Martha Stewart would be jealous of, with these helpful Spring/Summer pantry fix up tips

I adore the change of seasons. It is the perfect time to give my cupboards a bit of a refresh and Spring clean. There’s nothing like a bit of sunshine to get me up and about and enthusiastic about de cluttering, organising and getting my pantry staples all ready for Summer. Surely that can’t just be me? Well maybe it might be, but with these tips, you will enjoy the process just as much as I do!!

Spray And Wipe
To get your pantry Spring and Summer ready, start by getting yourself some cleaning essentials. My faves are the simple, cheap micro fibre cloths, no cleaning job should start without one or two of these genius products. Using that along with my all time favourite bench spray Bondi Wash, proudly made in Australia from all natural ingredients, just perfect! Your pantry will be smelling like an Aussie gum tree in no time!

Now to really begin. Take everything out, yes everything! Wipe every surface clean. That is the base of the cupboard, the sides, the doors… EVERYTHING! If we are going to do it, we might as well do it properly, right.

Get In The Zone
Once everything has been removed, and the wiping is all done, now you need to reassess how your pantry has been working. My golden rule for organising any space is to make sure it is zoned. Similar items should be positioned together. For example canned products and jars, pasta and rices, cereal and spreads. The most commonly used items should obviously be placed in the most accessible, easy to reach spot.

TupperWare Party
How are your containers looking? Need a freshen up? Or you just don’t have enough? Head to Kmart, Coles, Woolies or Ikea and try and develop a uniformed, cohesive look for your pantry. Matching is always fun.

Why not take it to the next level and get yourself a labeller… Martha Stewart would be proud. Everything will be well ordered, matching and labelled, hello, this will make your life so much easier in the long run. No more fussing around to find that flour for the cake you are baking, it will be easy to find with its nice label.

It’s Gotta Go
Throw out items past their ‘use by date’. What is the point of keeping those bad boys around? You probably won’t eat them so stop letting them take up precious space and part with them. If you haven’t used them by now, chances are you never will. Having up to date items in an organised, well labelled pantry encourages healthier eating choices and with Summer on its way we could all do with more of that! Put the slow cookers and casserole dishes up out of sight and start thinking salads, fresh delicious food and entertaining, the best things about Summer!

No More Kidding Around
Your kids daily use items such as lunch boxes and school snacks can often end up in a mess. Invest in some large baskets or tubs to hold their ‘stuff’… It will make life a lot easier, especially when you are trying to get the kids ready for school in the morning. Besides that, they will love having the freedom to choose their snacks each day. I basically call it a necessity to have a kids’ section in any pantry if you have a young family. It has actually been a life saver (ok a bit dramatic… a time saver) in my household!

My pantry.

My pantry.

Work to these tips and your pantry should be like Martha Stewart’s in no time.
