Lavazza Italian Film Festival 2016

Featuring around 30 movies over 3 weeks, the Italian Film Festival is screening 21 Sept to 12 Oct exclusively at the Palace Nova. Tickets are on sale now.

The Lavazza Italian Film Festival is set to wow audiences again with outstanding cinema from Italy’s finest talent.

Running from 21 September to 12 October 12 exclusively at the Palace Nova Eastend Cinemas, the festival will open with a Perfect Strangers (Perfetti sconosciuti), a film about seven friends at a dinner party who decide to share the content of every message, email and phone call they receive over the night during which more secrets than expected are revealed. Director Paolo Genovese’s cunningly crafted drama hosts an all-star cast including Alba Rohrwacher, Kasia Smutniak, Edoardo Leo, Giuseppe Battiston, Valerio Mastandrea and Marco Giallini.

The much anticipated opening night gala will see guests sipping Bandini prosecco on arrival, and after the film audiences will enjoy a Lavazza and Connoisseur “Affogato Bar”, Peroni, Aquilani Italian wine, a taste of Italy, live entertainment and our famous festival gift bag!

Festival Director Elysia Zeccola Hill, who has been organising the festival for the last 16 years, added: “Palace continues its love for all things Italian including movies, coffee, cars, and wine. This festival is a celebration of Italian language and culture and, most of all, cinema – these are the best films to have come out of Italy in the last 12 months.”

The festival is also proud to host the world premiere screenings of The Space Between by Melbourne filmmaker Ruth Borgobello. The first Australian-Italian feature co-production, it is a cross-cultural romantic drama starring Flavio Parenti and Maeve Dermody and a true celebration of la dolce vita. The filmmaker will be present for a Q&A session at the screening on 24 September.

Taking the Centrepiece slot is veteran director Marco Bellocchio’s Sweet Dreams (Fai bei sogni) straight from Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes. The film adaptation of Massimo Gramellini’s best-seller Sweet Dreams, Little One, is headlined by Valerio Mastandrea and Bérénice Bejo.
