Many regional fuel retailers are still dragging their feet when it comes to passing on tumbling oil prices, as has been revealed in the latest Regional Fuel Ratings results.
RAA Senior Analyst Chris West said overall ratings have remained unchanged in January, but Kadina has jumped into top spot with a score of 2.5 out of 5.
“Kadina’s fuel prices best reflected the drop in the wholesale price, followed by Bordertown and Victor Harbor,” said Mr West.
“Kadina definitely deserves the top spot because it’s been offering the fairest prices on all fuel types, compared to other towns that may have only one fuel type at a fair price.”
“Bordertown has taken a huge leap up the ladder, jumping from 15th to 2nd in a month, thanks to the local fuel industry finally passing on falling oil prices.”
Despite a slight increase in crude oil prices over the past week, RAA says there’s still room for prices to fall.
“As yet many country pump prices don’t reflect the overall fall in oil prices, so if retailers attempt to increase their prices in early February it would be seen as a cash grab to short change country motorists,” said Mr West.
Although many towns are starting to see a drop in fuel prices, there are still a number of centres that need to lift their game including Mount Gambier (1.5), Whyalla (1.5), Port Lincoln (1.1), Naracoorte (1.1), Port Augusta (0.6), Coober Pedy (0.3) and Broken Hill (0.2).
