Japanese Film Festival 2015

It’s more than just anime and martial arts! The 19th annual Japanese Film Festival unfolds at the Mercury Cinema from 30 October to Sunday 8 November 2015.

Watch Japan unfold from Friday 30 October to Sunday 8 November when we welcome the Japanese Film Festival back to the Mercury Cinema.

The Japanese Film Festival is in its 19th year nationally and is now the largest Japanese film festival in the world, treating us to the hottest new feature films direct from Japan. It is more than anime and action, bringing us a little bit of everything. There are 11 films having their Australian premiere, all spoken in Japanese with English subtitles unless otherwise specified. Personal highlights include:

100 Yen Love – an intriguing tale of an awkward woman, an awkward love affair and a quest for personal triumph.
Assassination Classroom – wait till you meet the new teacher!
Library Wars: The Last Mission – the Library Defence Force exists to protect books in a dystopian future – rebel readers looking for action will love it.

Last year, over 30,000 people attended festival events nationally and with such an eclectic mix of movies again this year, it looks to be another “must-go” event. The Japan Foundation should be congratulated for this.

Tickets are currently on sale from the Japanese Film Festival website or through the Mercury Cinema website. You can also phone the Mercury Cinema on 8410 1934. For regular updates, ‘like’ the Japanese Film Festival’s Facebook page.

Individual tickets prices are $18.50 Adults or $15.50 concession, with a 5 Film Pass available for $75.00.
