It’s Time To Get Race Ready For February’s Kangaroo Island Racing Carnival

It’s time to dust off those fascinators, shine up those shoes and get frocked up and fabulous for Kangaroo Island’s most popular event, the SeaLink Kangaroo Island Racing Carnival.

The SeaLink Kangaroo Island Racing Carnival hits up the Cygnet River Racecourse from Thursday 15th to Saturday 17th February with plenty of fashion, entertainment, food, wine and of course horse racing.  Yes, there will actually be horses, but you can be forgiven for getting swept away in all of the other activity going on during the Carnival.

Racing starts on the Thursday 15th and is the first of two race days. The party isn’t just limited to the track though with the Ozone Hotel in Kingscote hosting the KI Racing Club Welcome Cocktail Party from 7 pm – 9 pm with drinks and cocktail food included.

The main event, the Dudley Wines KI Cup takes place on the Saturday 17th and it wouldn’t be complete without Fashions on the Field to show off your track-side style.  This event just keeps getting bigger and more glamorous every year; even the kidlets can get involved with their very own section.  Super cute!  There are prizes too with the winner going into the State final, so time to start planning that all-important attire.

The Kangaroo Island Cup Carnival always attracts a stylish crowd and this year will be no different, especially with such great prizes up for grabs in the Fashions on the Field competition. This year’s best dressed racegoer will not only win a Southern Ocean Lodge luxury escape and $1000 cash, but they’ll also secure themselves a place in the Fashion at The Races state final for the chance to win an incredible $5000 shopping spree at BNKR.

If you enjoy a bit of indulgence with your racing, the KI Cup Long Lunch is a must.  Held track-side in an exclusive marquee, with its own bar, bookie, TOTE & TV screens, you won’t miss any of the action.  A gourmet four-course lunch from well-known local chef Sue Pearson (Two Birds & A Squid) will be complimented by a selection of delicious Dudley Wines, beer and soft drinks.  Having done this before, we can definitely say it’s the way to go. You will need to get in quick though because it sells out every year. So get your crew together and book before it’s too late.

The Carnival’s newest addition for racegoers is the trendy Pimm’s Party for all general admission ticket holders and will feature freshly poured Pimm’s (yes please!) in a relaxed garden party atmosphere.

There are also party tent packages with catering options of picnic hampers and beverage packages for 10 or 15 people available on the Saturday.   It’s all the fancy without you having to fuss; what an awesome way to enjoy your day at the races.

Want something to do when the horses aren’t racing?  Well Dudley Wines has you covered with their “Punters Intermission” sessions on the Friday and Sunday.  If you haven’t been to Dudley’s before, then you have to go and check out their clifftop cellar door.  It has one of our favourite outlooks straight across the water back to the mainland. The view really is something special.  And what is also special is Dudley Wines food and wine selection.  We definitely suggest trying the King George Whiting pizza; it is to die for.

Punters Intermission also brings you the sounds of live music from ‘A Party with Kate’ on the Friday, and local band ‘Home Grown’ on Sunday to keep you entertained. Oh, and don’t forget to have a crack at Dudley’s very own golf across the gully while you are there.  Punters Intermission is free to enter, but we suggest making a booking as it’s a popular choice for visitors and locals alike.
