It’s The 10th Birthday Of The Adelaide Showground Farmers’ Market

And to celebrate this month, they’ll be hosting a heap of kids activities and special guest chefs.

Throughout the month of October, South Australia’s largest famers’ market, the Adelaide Showground Farmers’ Market will celebrate its 10th anniversary with an exciting line up of cooking demonstrations by guest chefs and a jam-packed program of free activities for kids. The Adelaide Showground Farmers’ Market started in 2006 as a not-for-profit organisation that supports small
family farms, agricultural diversity. Acclaimed nationally as the ‘Best Farmers’ Market’ by Australian Traveller Magazine in 2015, the market has evolved over the past 10 years and today offers a more than just local fresh produce. Starting from 2 October, the 10th anniversary will be celebrated with a variety of activities. The highlights include:

October 2
Plenty for the kids here; the 10th anniversary will kick off with special performances by George the Farmer at 9.30am and 10:30am, where George and his friends will teach kids through stories and songs about where food comes from and life on an Australian farm. At 11.15am the market will celebrate the milestone with birthday cake and speeches at the demonstration kitchen. Following this, at 11:30am specialty chef and market stallholder, Saskia Beer will show shoppers how to recreate one of her very own recipes, using fresh market produce in the market kitchen. Free face painting will also be available throughout the day.

October 9
Have the kids take part in free circus skills workshops by Lolly Jar Circus from 9.30am to 11.00am. Held in the Kids’ Club area inside the market pavilion, children will learn to juggle a variety of objects including balls, flower sticks and hula-hoops. There will also be animal petting zoo at the market that morning, where children have the opportunity to get up close to a variety of adorable baby pets and small farm animals. Lastly, celebrity chef and market stallholder, Poh Ling Yeow will take to the kitchen at 11.30am for a mouth-watering cooking demonstration.Adelaide Showgroun Farmer's Markets
October 16
This week’s Kids’ Club activities will include an interactive wildlife show, involving an educational presentation with tame native animals and the opportunity for children to get up close and meet a variety of the furry and scaly animals. Shows will commence at 9.30am and 10.15am (30 minutes per show). Kids will also have the opportunity to watch an entertaining balloon twister and take home a balloon gift. presenter, Rosa Matto will show shoppers how to cook one of her famous dishes at 11.30am in the market kitchen.

October 23
There’s plenty of activities on offer this week for families, including a jumping castle for kids, the A.R.E. snake and reptile display and a free Kids’ Club cooking activity from 10am – decorating cupcakes. The market kitchen will feature celebrity chef, Simon Bryant, who will show us a few cooking tricks to creating one of his fabulous recipes featuring seasonal local produce at 11.30am.

The Adelaide Showground Farmers’ Market’s 10th anniversary will conclude with a fun puppet show for kids aged 1 – 8 years old, involving two monkey puppets, Bongo & Congo, who play African drums, get the audience involved with singing and dancing, and perform magic tricks and special effects gags. Shows will be held at 9.30am and 10.15am (30 minutes per show). At 11.30am Callum Hann & Themis Chryssidis from Sprout Cooking will feature in the weekly celebrity cooking demonstration, whipping up something delicious for shoppers
to try made with fresh produce from the market.

The Adelaide Showground Farmers’ Market will be open Sundays from 9am until 1pm at the Adelaide Showground in Wayville (via Leader Street). Entry is free and parking is available onsite.
