Italy is a country synonymous with style– making the European fashion mecca the perfect inspiration for Thoroughbred Racing SA’s Fashion at The Races State Final.

Guests at the Fashion at The Races State Final luncheon on Saturday, May 9 for William Hill Derby Day at Morphettville will be treated to a Mediterranean feast which includes antipasto, chicken saltimbocca, petit tiramisu and cannoli set to the backdrop of top Group 1 racing.

CIBO Glenelg will provide a further taste of Italy by setting up a mini café at the luncheon where they will treat guests to a free coffee, gelato or affagato. These delectable treats will also be available to those who watch the State Final from the general admission area.

The winner of the state-wide style search will also take home an Italian prize– an Alfa Romeo MiTo valued at $24,500. The runner-up will win a Perri Cutten shopping spree valued at $3000 and the racegoer judged to have the best millinery will receive a $150 voucher from Studio Hats.

Fourteen Fashion at The Races finalists from competitions around South Australia have already been selected, with the two remaining finalists chosen at Oaks Day on May 2 and in the Derby Day heat. This means it’s still not too late to qualify for the State Final and take home the crown of South Australia’s best dressed racegoer.

Former MasterChef contestant Laura Cassai will judge the Derby Day heat and speak to guests about her Italian heritage and new book, My Italian Kitchen.

Channel 10 weather presenter Kate Freebairn will host the State Final, which will also include fashion parades from Perri Cutten and TAFE SA students who have created black and white designs in the Derby Day tradition.

Thoroughbred Racing SA Marketing Manager Michelle Greene said Fashion at the Races is a statewide celebration of all that we love about The Races– city glamour, country style and regional pride.

“Those attending the luncheon will have the opportunity to not only witness the hotly-contested Fashion at The Races final, but also fashion parades by Perri Cutten and TAFE SA and dine on amazing Italian food,” Mrs Greene said.

“We’ll be looking for someone who dresses with style, class and a touch of personality.”

The finalists are chosen at major race days held across South Australia over a 12 month period. Joining Ms Greene on the judging panel are Anna Mott from Racing Fashion TV, SA Life Editor Jacqui Harbison and Perri Cutten State Manager Vivien Smith.
