South Australia is filled with some pretty amazing accommodation options. We are absolutely spoilt for choice, and our discovery of the former Davies Bacon Factory, which is now known as FACTORIA VII, has us starry eyed. It’s somewhere we’d send our interstate friends for a special getaway, spend a weekend with our girlfriends in between winery visits, or prepare for a wedding with your bridal party. Really, we don’t need an excuse, we just need to find time to getaway and soak up this gorgeous destination, which is right up the road from Bird in Hand, Golding Wines, Shaw & Smith and many other fantastic Adelaide Hills destinations.
Built in 1877, the original two-story barn has been converted into a 5 bedroom house, using reclaimed timbers and local stone. The unique property is set on 1/2 acres in the small township of Dawesley. Surrounded by stone paths and featuring a courtyard, it also has tiered gardens, fruit trees & lawned area surrounded by native trees and hedging to create a completely private space.
The interior has been sympathetically updated showcasing the rustic stone walls and hardwood jarrah floors. In the heart of the home; a real country kitchen has eat-in dining area, combustion fireplace with french doors that look onto the jasmine covered courtyard. Laundry and second bathroom conveniently located off the kitchen with access to outside. The two story portion of the home with open plan living area showcasing the exposed beams and stonework downstairs and 3 bedrooms plus loft and modern bathroom upstairs. The master bedroom is located in a new addition off of the living area.
Two combustion fires keep the house extra warm in winter, and they have an air conditioner/heater in the living area and an additional wall heater in the master room. Heated blankets are provided for all beds in winter months.
FactoriaVII is a short 10 minute drive away from Woodside, Oakbank & Hahndorf with amenities, cafes and restaurants in Nairne and Littlehampton as well. There’s a two night minimum but prices start from only $225 a night (which is a bargain for what you’re getting!).
