Interview: Todd McKenney On His Fabulous Style

Say the name ‘Todd McKenney’ and it instantly conjures up the word ‘Fabulous’ in your head. We sit down with the man himself to talk style.

Say the name ‘Todd McKenney‘ and it instantly conjures up the word ‘Fabulous’ in your head. Whether paying the ‘nasty judge’ on Dancing With The Stars (e.g. his judging created a very public on-air meltdown of celeb contestant Mark Holden), staring in the movie Strictly Ballroom, playing Peter Allen in the stage version of The Boy From Oz (waaaay before Hugh Jackson did we might add) or playing the heart throb Teen Angel in Grease The Musical, this man has done it all and takes the term ‘triple threat’ to new levels with ‘quadruple threat’ – Singer, Dancer, Actor & Fabulous.
If you haven’t seen this mega talent perform before you are certainly missing out, BUT, alas, fear not cos he is currently appearing I’m Dusty The Musical as Dusty’s gay hairdresser and loyal best friend.
Dusty The Musical hits Adelaide on December the 31st (New Years Eve) and plays at the Adelaide Festival Centre and is the extraordinary story of the life and music of Dusty Springfield, one of pop music’s greatest female stars. The musical is the creation of Australian writers John-Michael Howson, David Mitchell and Melvyn Morrow.
Dusty Springfield took the world by storm with hits including ‘I Only Want To Be With You’, ‘Wishin’ and Hopin’’, ‘You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me’, ‘I Just Don’t Know What to Do With Myself’ and ‘Son of a Preacher Man’. Dusty the Musical features all of these hits plus many other hits from the era such as ‘Dancing In The Street’, ‘My Generation’ and ‘The Look of Love’. Starring Amy Lehpamer (recently “Maria” in The Sound of Music) as Dusty, Todd McKenney (The Boy From Oz) as Rodney, Dusty’s loyal hairdresser and best friend, Virginia Gay (Winners & Losers) as Peg, Adelaide’s own Paul Blackwell as Dusty’s father, another Adelaide actor Baylie Carson as Mary O’Brien, a stellar cast of singers and dancers and a live band on stage.
