Kat Sachse is bubbling with enthusiasm for her next role, as Glinda in Matt Byrne Media’s production of the Broadway hit, Wicked, which opens this week! “It’s the most challenging role I have undertaken,” she says, along with singing the praises of her fellow leads.  Kat is very pleased to be working with the likes of Dianne k Lang who she has always thought of as an inspiration and is thrilled to be in the cast with the likes of Michael Bates (Fiyero), Zak Vassiliou (Boq) and Rick Williams (The Wizard). “They are all doing so well,” she said,” and the chorus sounds amazing”.

Kat has a strong record in theatre. She played Sandy in Grease for Northern Light Theatre Company; tried her hand at drama in Lazy Saturday’s production of Darkle; and has been Cosette in a local production of Les Miserables. She previously worked with her current director, Matt Byrne of Matt Byrne Media, when she played Penny in Hairspray. Recently, after her successful appearance on television’s The Voice, she has been concentrating on her full-time music career but says she is eager to return to the stage.

I asked Kat what attracts her to the character of Glinda and she replied that she is such a complex mix of insecurities and she reminds her strongly of herself. Kat says the friendship which develops between the two witches changes both of them, making Glinda see things differently. She learns to fight for the greater good, though not all necessarily turns out well for her.

The production is already creating talk in theatre circles because it is a huge undertaking, but everyone involved seems to feel it will be exceptional and the buzz is building. If it lives up to expectations, it will be a show not to be missed. Have you booked our tickets?
