Nashville Comes To Gawler will play at Gawler Starplex Theatre this Saturday 5th September, and will also feature Honky Tonk musician Travis List, along with special guests Roo Arcus & Pete Denahy. The Adelaide born and raised Golden Guitar winner was thrilled to be playing to a home crowd, and told Glam Adelaide that this tour has a very personal touch to it.

Based in the US where she is taking the country music world by the horns, Cox is a spritely, down to earth lass with a smile in her voice that is infectious. She does though, remain an Adelaide girl at heart. “Although I live away for work these days, it’s always nice to come home to perform.”

Singing since she was 11, life has been constantly a dream turned into reality for Cox who was always destined for the stage. It hasn’t been totally easy though, as Cox admits to some tough times along the way. “It sometimes takes a while to work out where you want to be and where you want to go, and I got a little lost there for a while, but I do music for because it makes me happy. It’s very surreal to think that I’m now playing in Nashville and have a record deal, but I’ve really taken the opportunities that have come.” And the opportunities have definitely come for Cox, having this year won an Australian Country Music Award (Golden Guitar) for Bluegrass Recording Of The Year. Her song One Heartbreak Away  is world class, and showcases Cox’s versatility as a singer and potential actor. (She starts in the film clip and does a great job!) “ I like to put a bit of tongue and cheek into my songs, I’m not overly serious and like to have a bit of fun,” says Cox of the award-winning single.

We discuss the subtle differences between American and Australian Country music, both renowned for their observational nature. “Australian Country music is definitely a different sound in its raw form than American music. Country and Bluegrass songs though, come from the heart. They’re about real people, our hometowns, things that are happening in peoples live, heartache etc. That’s what I love about it, we’re singing about real stuff.”

Couldn’t agree more! Country music has an honesty and authenticity to it unlike many other genres out there today. Its practitioners often live the life, and emanate that through their songs.

On the home front, Cox has an eight month old girl named Adelaide to her beau, (and soon to be husband), Travis List who is also making his mark on country music. Asked how she balances family with life on the road, Cox’s reply is both admirable and courageous. “You’ve just gotta do it! You grab a trolley and lug the suitcases, Porta Cot, 2 guitars at the airport, and the baby. She’s been everywhere already, including 3 return trips between America and Australia. She doesn’t know any different and she loves it! We (Travis and I) try to do things either one at a time or together to maintain family balance and career though.”

This trip will see Cox and partner Travis List tie the knot in a private ceremony early September, what better way to celebrate than being able to perform together in front of a home crowd. “We fly out to the US the day after, so it’ll be quite tame, hopefully, “ says an excited Cox.

Nashville Comes To Gawler is a showcase of 4 exceptionally talented country artists who have actually played in Nashville and ‘walked the walk.’

Even better is that the Golden Guitar winning headliner, Kristy Cox, is an Adelaide girl at heart and is taking the world of country music by storm.
