Rob Sharp Tigerair with CrewTigerair Australia has today commenced flying its inaugural services between Sydney and Adelaide and Brisbane and Adelaide, marking a significant increase in the airline’s services through Adelaide Airport.

The welcome boost for the local economy comes at a good time for the state, just as Adelaide is in the peak of its renowned festival season.

Collectively the new services represent a 70% increase on existing services through the South Australian capital and will provide 240,000 additional visitor seats whilst creating 10 extra ground support jobs in the process.

Tigerair Australia CEO Rob Sharp said “This is a significant milestone for our airline, which is embarking on its future Australian expansion as planned and great news for the domestic aviation sector, for consumers and for Australian tourism on multiple levels.

“When the airline rebranded in July last year, we promised more choice for consumers. Today is the start of delivering on this commitment. We are putting the customer and what they want at the forefront of our business.

“Our network decisions are a result of extensive analysis and are always based on consumer demand. We believe that our announcement today begins to address an underserved budget market and reinforces Tigerair’s long term commitment to the South Australian market.”

The commencement of the new Adelaide services also coincide with the launch of Tigerair’s new Brisbane base, the introduction of five new routes over the next four weeks and the commencement of Web Check services across its entire network.

To celebrate, Tigerair is launching a 48 hour “fly one way return for $1*” super sale which commences from midday today (AEDST) for flights either way between Adelaide and Brisbane for travel in March and April 2014.

Mr. Sharp, who was on the inaugural flight from Sydney, also today announced the launch of Tigerair’s new Brisbane base and unveiled new airport infrastructure innovations that will improve customer experience and deliver efficiencies underpinning value for money fares.

“Today also sees a realisation of our focus on customer experience and the desire to innovate. Today we officially launch our new Web Check service across our entire network meaning customers can now save both time and money when they fly with Tigerair.”

Adelaide Airport Ltd Managing Director, Mark Young, welcomed Tigerair’s new services to Sydney and Brisbane.

“Tiger’s new services provide a greater choice for our customers in the low cost carrier market,” Mr Young said.

“This benefits South Australians heading interstate and provides local tourism opportunities by attracting more visitors to SA.  These new flights are a further boost to the ongoing growth of Adelaide Airport’s business across our domestic and international sectors.”

Sydney Airport Chief Executive Officer, Kerrie Mather, said “We welcome Tigerair’s new daily service from Sydney to Adelaide commencing today, which will add 131,000 seats to Sydney annually.”

“Tigerair will also commence a Sydney-Whitsunday Coast service and increase frequencies from Sydney to Brisbane and Melbourne in April. These new routes and frequencies are great news for our city and our state in terms of tourism growth, as New South Wales will receive an additional 300,000 seats per year.

“The growth of low cost carriers such as Tigerair is also providing more choice and convenience for our 38 million passengers a year who travel through Sydney Airport.”
