Historic Marion Vineyard To Host Patritti Pop-Up Cellar Door

Ever driven down Oaklands Road near Marion and wondered what the deal with the roadside vineyard was? We certainly have, because in true South Australian style, our attention is garnered whenever anything to do with wine pops up. Well now you can find out all about it (and drink wine amongst the vines!).

Long before Westfield Marion existed, and the epic waterslides of the Marion Aquatic Centre appeared, the greater area of Marion was known for its agricultural history. Once known as the ‘Garden of Adelaide’, Marion’s rich fertile soils were ideal for market gardens, orchards and vineyards. Only a few tiny vineyards remain; the most significant of these is the world famous, council owned, Marion Vineyard (yes, that one on Oaklands Road). Over 100 years old, the vines are a reminder of the district and the quality of the produce it was once famous for. In 2006 the City of Marion decided that the last operational winery in the area, Patritti, should be given the responsibility of caring for the vineyard. Patritti have taken their custodianship of this precious historical site with great pride.

Quite literally tucked away on a quiet suburban street in Dover Gardens, Patritti is an historic winery and cellar door just 20 minutes south of the city and five minutes from the stunning Brighton jetty. Established in 1926, Patritti is the last remaining 100% family-owned suburban winery in Adelaide. As well as managing the Marion Vineyard, the family also own two exceptional vineyards in the beautiful McLaren Vale and craft their most exclusive red wines from these vines. They also produce a range of traditional and alternative varietal wines from the Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills.

Now they’re gearing up to host their annual ‘Wine in the Vines’ party with food by Tim and Kyle from My Kitchen Rules in their brand new food truck CAROclub, music and more!

Members of the public are invited to wander through the vines, mingle with Patritti’s winemakers, and enjoy a glass of this special wine.
