Help Adelaide Teen Jake Conquer Kokoda Before Spina Bifida Confines Him To A Wheelchair

Most 16 year old boys are enjoying their carefree teenage years, mucking around with their mates, starting to think about uni, and stepping into the treacherous world of love with other teenagers. Jake isn’t most teenagers however. He’s a bold, adventurous, free spirit, who is racing the clock, to tick some items off his bucket list, before Spina Bifida claims the mobility he currently enjoys. That doesn’t mean he’s not doing the things his peers are, however he knows and values his freedom, and wants to make the most of it before he inevitably becomes wheelchair bound.

Jake could be in a wheelchair in as little as 3 years. That would make him 19.

So while most of us wait till we finish Uni to go adventuring around the world, Jake and his father Jason Jurecky (one of the owners of Lindes Lane in Rundle Mall) have put together a bucket list, which they’re working on together, to allow Jake to experience some incredible things, while he still can.

Before Jake was born, a routine 20 week ultrasound revealed Jake had a problem with the formation of his spine. Jake has Myelomeningocele, which means that the outer part of the vertebrae is split with the spinal cord. This is further complicated with a Lipoma on his spine. His medical team are working on keeping him walking as long as possible, but it’s complicated.

Currently Jake is working towards getting to Kokoda to walk the Kokoda Trail, before taking on Japan and South Africa. To tick the first destination off his list however, he needs to raise some funds. $30,000 to be exact.

Jake and Jason Jurecky are throwing a fantastic fundraising night on August 26th and we’d love everyone to head along or support it in some way. It promises to be an evening of entertainment, food, booze, dancing, silent auctions, a wine wall & the greatest grazing table Adelaide has ever seen – and with more to be announced it’ll be the most fun you have all year!

The theme is cocktail with a touch of camo, so bring your dancing shoes as it’s going to be a great party for a great cause!
