Last week Renew Adelaide and Regent Arcade celebrated the one year birthday of their pop up stores, plus the opening of some exciting new shops. Glam Adelaide was lucky enough to attend this little soiree (read our wrap up on the event here), and one store in particular caught our eye.

Have You Met Charlie? is the collaboration between two local creative labels, Mintcloud and Coloured Pears, originally set up as part of the Renew Adelaide program. Lauren and Bec came together and created Have You Met Charlie? and, after firstly setting out on a six month trial, have since signed a lease to stay in the arcade.

Bec and Lauren are great South Aussies helping other South Aussies and we at Glam love that! They not only stock a fantastic range of prints, jewellery, homewares, clothing, tea, beauty products and unique gifts, but they also aim to support and provide a platform for independent artists to really thrive in the retail environment. They also offer a unique shopping experience for consumers conscious about supporting small businesses.

Co-Owner Bec mentioned that, “Whilst our store predominately features designers/makers from South Australia, we have introduced interstate and international brands who fit the unique and colourful nature of Have you met Charlie? We carefully select artists who align with our brand and are passionate about their products.”

“We get a real buzz from seeing the brands we sell flourish. One local business we started selling in May last year was Oh Deer Sugar, who continuously impress us with their innovative ideas, marketing and products. We are so excited to see them one year on, open their own store in the arcade,” said Bec.

The Renew Adelaide Regent Arcade project, has seen the revitalisation of what could have been called a bit of a dying spot in Adelaide’s CBD. With a lot of the spaces left empty and unused, Renew Adelaide stepped in to sort the issue out and bring the beautiful arcade back to life.

This initiative meant that new businesses could have access to otherwise empty spaces, rent free. From this action, Regent Arcade has, once again, become a buzzing hub of shopping activity.

Bec said, “Since starting with Renew Adelaide last year we’ve seen a heap of changes through Regent Arcade. I remember when we first opened not seeing a soul walk past our shop for a good hour. We now continuously have a stream of people in the shop.”

“The arcade itself has completely transformed and there is a buzz about the place. People love exploring the arcade now and we get many comments from people who haven’t stepped foot in the arcade for years. It’s been so exciting being a part of it from the beginning, we can only imagine where it will be this time next year.”

Eclectic, bright, cheerful, unique, friendly, supportive of South Australian artists… Boy, Have You Met Charlie? sure ticks a lot of our boxes!
