Have You Got Australia’s Ugliest Bedroom?

Don’t be shy… Show off your ugly bedroom and you could win a bedroom makeover worth up to $13,000

Online homewares retailer TheHome.com.au and Better Homes and Gardens have today launched the search for Australia’s Ugliest Bedroom. The winner of the less than flattering title will receive a bedroom makeover worth up to $13,000.

“Coming home from a long day’s activities you should have a bedroom that allows you to relax, rejuvenate and recharge for the next day,” said Alexandra Mills, CEO of TheHome.com.au.

“We spend most of our time in our bedrooms, so a well decorated one will not only help you relax and sleep better, but it will make you feel better,” she added.

The makeover, which is valued up to $13,000, includes furniture and décor from TheHome.com.au, new blinds and carpet (if applicable) courtesy of Australia’s biggest flooring retailer Carpet Court, walls painted by British Paints and services from online marketplace Airtasker.

Last year, the national search to find Australia’s Ugliest Living Room found The Jouni family in Guildford, NSW. They won the title and the makeover, and their ugly living room was transformed from drab to fab.

If you aren’t lucky enough to win the prize, then how about you give your ugly bedroom a little makeover yourself, with these 5 tips to transform your bedroom:

Doon’ it right
One of the most affordable – yet most impactful – ways to transform your bedroom is to ditch your tired old doona cover in favour of a crisp white or solid colour doona cover.

“Go up a size (e.g. from queen to king) with the doona cover so the edges of the doona wrap nicely around the mattress for a more luxurious look,” recommends TheHome.com.au’s interior stylist Emma Blomfield.

Clean up
“Clutter and mess can be a handful, and can make the most beautifully decorated bedroom appear drab and unflattering. So why not recycle things you don’t use or need, do a thorough spring clean (yes, that means also cleaning your carpets and windows!) and reorganise your home for a start fresh start this spring.” recommends Katie Hume from Airtasker.

Refresh your walls
“Painting your bedroom doesn’t have to be expensive or difficult. A fresh coat of paint can make a big impact. Whether you prefer a more neutral palette or bold colours, it’s all about creating a space that shines with your personal style”, says Rebecca Sacher from British Paints.

Get a nice new carpet
“Your floor is the one part of your home that you’re almost in constant contact with. It’s important to select the right colours, patterns and textures which can make or break an interior’s look,” says Carpet Court ambassador Darren Palmer.

Throw some shade
“Don’t forget to jazz up your bedside lighting by changing the shades on an old pair of lamps or spray-painting the lamp bases with metallic spray paint for a new, modern look,” recommends Emma Blomfield.

To enter yourself or a friend in the running to win the makeover, all you need to do is head to
www.bhg-comps.com.au and submit a photo of your bedroom. Entries close September 30.
