Adelaide’s home of screen culture, the Media Resource Centre and the Mercury Cinema, are kicking off 2016 with a packed program of films, live comedy, workshops and more!
Adelaide Cinematheque and Seniors on Screen (SOS) will begin in early February, giving audiences eleven months of cinematic joy through the year.
The addition of The Sunday Sessions will make sure the working week doesn’t get in the way of people catching the great films presented at the Mercury Cinema. It’s purpose is two fold, according to MRC Director, Gail Kovatseff: to enable nine to fivers the chance to catch the great films we screen in our Seniors on Screen program, and to broaden the much-loved program for Seniors. Kovatseff also points out that The Sunday Sessions are for everyone, but they encourage people to bring a senior in their life with them.
The new Good Morning Comedy program will bring the Adelaide Fringe to the Mercury for each Wednesday morning of the festival, and, with the help of the Fringe’s young staff, they have pulled together four great gala sessions. Expect mornings of hilarity that work for seniors, tourists and locals taking holidays who want to maximise their Fringe experience.
For the first time the Media Resource Centre has also launched a February to May combined season program, which contains:
- Adelaide Cinematheque, a film society curated survey of the world’s great cinema. Running twice weekly on Monday and Thursday nights at 7pm. Starts Thursday 4 February with Ranch Nights classic western Forty Guns.
- Seniors on Screen, the much-loved bi-weekly contemporary international film festival delivered in bite size. Tuesdays and Friday’s at 10.45am. Starts Friday 5 February with South Australian premiere and Kyrgyz entry for the 2016 Academy Awards Heavenly Nomadic.
- The Sunday Sessions, a preview of films presented at Seniors on Screen for audiences with busy weekdays. Starts Sunday 7 February at 4pm with South Australian premiere and Silver Bear winner for Best Director at Berlin International Film Festival, Aferim!
- Good Morning Comedy, an opportunity for Fringe hilarity, Ray Bradshaw (UK) and Gordon Southern (UK) confirmed and more to be revealed soon. Wednesday mornings at 11am from 17 Feb to 9 March.
- Screen Seekers, best of cinema for children during the school holidays. Starts Wednesday 13 April at 10.30am with kids classic Short Circuit.
- Workshops run by leading local and national screen practitioners for emerging filmmakers, youth and community members.
