Hairspray Arena Spectacular Bounces Into Adelaide This Month

Featuring more than 650 local Adelaide musical theatre ‘superstars’, Hairspray – The Big Fat Arena Spectacular will excite more than just fans of the musical.

Hairspray – The Big Fat Arena Spectacular looks set to break world records when it bounces into the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on 14 & 15 October and is set to feature more than 650 local Adelaide musical theatre ‘superstars’ ranging in age from 9- 21 years.

In April 2016, more than 13,000 people saw the show when the performance premiered Hairspray The Big Fat Arena Spectacular in Brisbane featuring singer and actress Christine Anu in the role of Motormouth Maybelle and newcomer Lauren McKenna as Tracy Turnblad.

The critics raved in Brisbane. ‘Starring Lauren McKenna as the big and beautiful Tracy Turnblad, the show was packed full of aerosol fumes, bright lights and massive dance numbers. With the biggest cast in a production of Hairspray ever, the show promised to wow audiences, and it didn’t disappoint … Christine Anu delivered a stellar performance as the fearless mother figure Motormouth Maybelle, giving the character all the sass she needed to shine through.”

With explosive choreography and stunning sets and costumes, HAIRSPRAY will be an unforgettable journey back to the 60s. It’s 1962, and pleasantly plump Baltimore teen Tracy Turnblad has only one desire – to be on television dancing on the popular Corny Collins Show. When her dream comes true, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star, but she must use her newfound power to vanquish the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin and integrate a television network – all without denting her ‘do!

Produced by Harvest Rain, Hairspray is directed & choreographed by Callum Mansfield (Dirty Dancing, The King & I, Cats Arena Spectacular) with musical direction by Dennett Hudson, designs by Josh McIntosh and lighting design by Trudy Dalgleish. The cast also includes Stacey de Waard as Amber Von Tussle, Vidya Maken as Lil Inez and Emily Monsma as Penny Pingleton.

Hairspray – The Big Fat Arena Spectacular will take place at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre for 3 performances only on 14 & 15 October 2016. For tickets and more details click here, or visit the Hairspray Arena Spectacular website.
