Calling all dog lovers! Now is the time to foster a greyhound with zero cost involved and the warm, fuzzy feeling of helping a working dog learn how to be a retired, lazy family pet.

Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) has just introduced ‘You. Me. 6 Weeks’, a program that has been created to allow greyhound foster carers to provide training and home-life assimilation for retired greyhounds to prepare them to join their adoptive families as a family member.

Matt Corby, CEO of Greyhound Racing SA, said the new campaign reinforced Greyhound Racing South Australia’s commitment by ensuring that South Australia continues to lead the way in greyhound welfare initiatives.

‘You. Me. 6 Weeks’ suits people who may not be able to commit long term to a pet, but can give 6 weeks to provide care a guidance for a foster greyhound.

Foster carers help their greyhound to acclimatise to life as a pet through interaction with families and making them familiar with all of the sights and sounds of the home environment before being adopted into a family home.

Greyhound Adoption Program matches foster carers with greyhounds based on whether they have children, other animals or have unusual working hours or living arrangements.

Long hours spent at home and large backyards are not always necessary criteria for involvement with the program as greyhounds are a relaxed animal and only require a small amount of daily exercise.

GAP SA cover the costs associated with the foster greyhound including all vet care, collars and leads, 24/7 support, and a $50 fuel voucher to cover travel expenses.
