Introducing NIGHT LAB
If you’re under 40 and looking for somewhere to go where you can catch up with friends, enjoy a drink or two and stimulate your mind, we’ve found just the thing for you. Night Lab is a brand new experience being offered at the South Australian Museum after dark for young people with a taste for discovery. It’s the first offering from their science & culture event event program.
Due to popular demand by students and young professionals, the Museum will transform its foyer and some galleries at night, and explore themes of exploration and survival. Enjoy wine, cider and some spirits, as well as energy-rich finger food inspired by the diet of world-famous Antarctic explorers.
Adelaide Festival Artistic Director, David Sefton will lead a conversation with guest speaker, world-renowned polar explorer and author, Tim Jarvis. Sefton & Jarvis will share an intimate and unscripted discussion about survival, what’s left to be explored, the understanding we have of ourselves and our preconceived limitations. Both speakers will stay on afterwards to chat and mingle with guests.
Three films, selected by Joost den Hartog, Director of Doc Week, will be screened throughout the evening.
For something different, try your hand at yarn-bombing and recreate explorer Douglas Mawson’s balaclavas, presented by E for Ethel.
The Night Lab series is an initiative to link scientific discovery with bright young minds in an entertaining setting. The Museum is proud to collaborate with Adelaide’s key artistic bodies to provide this unique experience for South Australians.
The Museum’s new Director, Mr Brian Oldman, will moderate the live discussion. He says the first Night Lab event represents a significant step forward in the Museum’s 150-year history.
“Night Lab is about working with industry leaders such as David Sefton and Tim Jarvis, provide young people with an accessible, entertaining and thought-provoking event – one which they will walk away from having been inspired by pioneers in arts and science, and by the world around us.”
Guests will arrive at 6pm, with talks by Mr Sefton and Mr Jarvis beginning at 7pm. A bar and drink stations will be set up in the Museum as guests mingle and enjoy the activities.
