Glam’s Guide To The Adelaide Events You Need To Check Out This February

0

And just like that the first month of 2016 is behind us! How crazy is that? Anyway the excitement is just ramping up. February is quite literally madness! If you find a night to sit on the couch and watch Making A Murderer, we’ll be impressed.

This piece probably shouldn’t read anything but: FRINGE! If we manage to squeeze anything else in we’ll be patting ourselves on the back, and you for that matter. However there’s so so much more than just that (spectacular, wonderful, fun) event. So here you go, everything you can do in this mighty state in February:

Feb 2nd- A Night with Valentino Sciotti at George’s on Waymouth. Be prepared for drooling in public. A four course spectacular feast will be served up with pre-dinner canapes and, of course, exquisite wines from Southern Italy. Valentino and his team of winemakers are huge players in the Italian wine game and are sure to teach you a thing or two about Italian vino. Bookings on (08) 8211 6960 or [email protected].

Feb 3rd- Paracombe Wine Dinner. Another wine dinner? Well don’t mind if we do! We’ve checked out the menu and there are no less than 10 spectacular Paracombe wines to be sipped on. Excellent. Plus five amazing food courses from the wonderful chefs at the Caledonian Hotel. And all for $88? That has to be some sort of value for money record! We can’t wait for the seafood platter.

Feb 5th- Ciao Ciao Coriole Pop Up at The Producers Bar. It seems February is the month for wine. That suits us just fine. If you’ve been meaning to make it to Coriole Vineyards to taste their fabulous produce (and trust us it should be on your list) this is the event for you. Because now you don’t even need to leave the city! There will be woodfire pizza and other delectable Italian morsels to munch on. Plus live music and of course wine, so much wine.

Feb 5th- Laneway Festival. Still one of our favourite Adelaide music festivals! It’s great to explore stunning Port Adelaide whilst listening to brilliant local and international music. With acts like Flume, Hermitude, CHVRCHES, DIIV and so many more it’s going to be amazing. We fear we may have sore heads come Saturday (from all the headbanging… clearly).

Feb 5th- Uncorked. Wine, glorious wine! We love Uncorked at the National Wine Centre, because it means we get to taste all of the delicious wine! This time a selection of wines from Tasmanian winery House of Arras will be on display. The free (yes our favourite ‘F’ word) starts at 4.30pm and is the perfect way to end your working week. With wines by the glass, bottle or tasting flight, plus complimentary cheese platters, we are SO there!

Feb 5th- h20 Explosion. Unleash your inner big kid. Leave your suit at home. Glenelg is hosting the biggest water fight in history! Ok ok, so maybe not in history, we’re sure there’s some Greek mythology somewhere down the line that would possibly top it, but regardless! Throw on your bathers and get to Colley Reserve from 6.30pm for water pistols, water bombs, DJs, bars and food. Or stand back and watch from a distance.

Feb 6th- 2016 McLaren Carne Vale. It seems like Italian is the flavour of the month too! Five courses of delicious Italian food with live music flowing through the vines at V.Mitolo & Son wines. There’s still a couple of ticket left but be quick! This one isn’t something you wanna miss. There’s buses to and from as well, because they’re all about enjoying the full experience.

Feb 6th- Houghtonfest 2016. A family friendly music fest? What a brilliant idea. Legendary band ‘The Beards’ are headlining this one with plenty of other marvellous musical acts on show too. South Aussie with Cosi will be your MC for the day, so there’ll be plenty of laughs plus wheelie cars, amusements, a farm barn and more for the little ones. Then bars, market stalls and competitions including best beard, best tattooed chick, best dressed couple and best beer gut (can’t wait to see that one!) to be judged on the day. Children under 18 get in free!

Feb 6th- Schmitt Fundraiser at the Mill. Now we love a good green smoothie as much as the next guy (or more than the next guy we suppose) but we’re also all about being able to laugh at yourself. Upcoming show Schmidt Schmidt by Lochy Maybury is a fast-paced, sarcasm-laced satire levelled at the ‘thinspiration’ movement. This party is a FUNdraiser to ensure this fabulous show goes ahead. There will be dinner, dessert, drinks from Stone & Wood and Delinquente Wines, live music, art for sale, games and a gypsy woman fortune teller (can’t wait to see that one).

Feb 6-7- Carnevale Adelaide 2016. The Italian festival to end all Italian festivals is back. With soooo muuuuccch fooood, brilliant drinks and live music. Plus fashion shows, soccer carnivals and more. It’s a cultural sensation, but also just a marvellous day out.

Feb 6-7th- Love Langhorne Creek. Ah yes, more wine please. Moving slightly further away from McLaren Vale brings us to Langhorne Creek. The aptly named festival (because, why yes, we do love Langhorne) is spread across various cellar doors in the region showcasing some fantastic drops. There’s everything from wine and chocolate pairings to masterclasses to food glorious food. There are also charter buses running on the Saturday. Check the link for further info.

Feb 7th- Gilles Street Market #140. Everyone’s fave market is back this month with all of its usual amazingness. Trawl through some of the best that our state has to offer with a fantastic range of homewares, clothing, accessories, art and food!

Feb 7th- The Lion Kick Start Sundays. Who doesn’t love a good sunday sesh? We certainly won’t go past an afternoon of drinking and delicious food. And in some awesome tunes plus some epic art and you have our attention… The Lion introduced their Kick Start Sundays event last month and the second installment sounds just as awesome as the first. While you sit back and sip on some specials from Bulmers and/or some cocktails, talented illustrator John Engelhardt will be doing his thing… This really is a Sunday sesh with a difference, and we like it.

Feb 7th- SOCCA+ Fun Day. SOCCA+ is an organisation that allows participants of all ages more opportunities for soccer match play and training programs in SA and they’re having a free open day on the SOCCA+ pitch for adults and children. There’s a live DJ, food by the Delectaballs food truck (yummmm), beer and wine thanks to Vale Ale Brewing Co, Flaxman Wines and Cake Wines. In addition, live graffiti art will be created with a special street soccer theme and fasion from local emerging label Welsh & Co will be on show. If that wasn’t enough the Hit107 Whip It Good Van will be popping by from 2pm – 3pm with free serves of Movenpick ice cream! Yayyyyy ice creammmmm!

Feb 7th- The Endless Summer at Electra House. Who doesn’t love a cocktail in the sunshine? And cocktails there shall be! These guys know how to throw a party, trust us!

Feb 8th- Super Bowl. It’s one of the biggest sporting events in the US, and you’ll feel the passion spreading across Adelaide. We’ll probably be heading to the pub to watch it on the big screen… mainly for the halftime show though.

Feb 9th- Pancake Toss. It’s Shrove Tuesday (pardon?) also known as Pancake Day (ah there we go, now you’re with us!) So come on down to Adelaide’s only 24hr pancake making establishment (The 24hr Pancake Kitchen) for some good old fashioned Pancake Tossing… all in the name of charity. There will be relay races for teams of 4 to raise money for the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. It’ll be a real laugh, that’s for sure.

Feb 10th- Mr Goodbar. This Adelaide bar has been in the making for some time now, and the hype has risen and risen so we cannot wait to peek behind the doors come Feb 10! This is the media opening but fear not, it’s covetted doors will be open to the public soon after.

Feb 12th- SASS Summit. SASS Place is essentially community and a co-working space that serves to support women in business in South Australia. We love the concept of women inspiring and empowering women (in the least wanky way possible). The SASS Summit is a whole day dedicated to just that. For entrepreneurs, those with big goals or just ladies who wanna kick some butt in their lives. Get inspired by women right here in SA that can open pathways for you and your big ol’ dreams. See our full article on SASS and how it can help you here

Feb 12th- Waugh in the West. The man, the myth, the cricket legend returns! The annual Waugh in the West Twenty20 all star cricket match is back and best of all… it’s free! Not all the stars have been officially announced yet but with live music and food and drink available for purchase on the day it’s set to be a big one. Proceeds will be going to the Waugh Foundation charity.

Feb 12th- Birthday for Babies. Now this is an event with real meaning. This beautiful ‘birthday party’ will be held to remember the babies who are sadly not with us, and especially those who have been born still. Held at Partridge House in Glenelg, as the sun goes down there will be a live butterfly release to make the event really special. Along with that, there will be a twilight market and a family friendly picnic (BYO hamper and rug).

Feb 12th- Fringe Opening. Let it begin. All the bright lights, sounds, sights, tastes and smells of easily one of the greatest events in the SA calendar year. Stay tuned for our quick run-down guides to which shows and events are must sees!

Feb 12th- Royal Croquet Club Opening. Ohhh yes! The RCC is back waaay bigger and a million times better than previous years. As if that is even possible, because it was already so awesome. But the boys behind the massive event that has now gone national have managed to put together a more epic program full of amazing shows, food, music and so much more. Check out more of what you can expect in our story here.

Feb 12th- Fat Tuesday at Nola. Ok so we know it’s a Friday, don’t get your knickers in a twist, or worse, all your dates confused! Fat Tuesday will be one of the liveliest parties ever experienced and we’re thrilled Adelaide will have its version complete with live jazz bands and NOLA DJ sets from The Atlantic Street Band & Adam Page, creole food, craft beer and hurricane bars from 5pm. And all round the corner from the Fringe opening. Pack your party shoes. Find out more about this cracking event in our story here

Feb 12th- Little Rundle Street Art Party. This is the lovely opening of the littlerundlestreeartproject. Bound to be less crowded than the inner city madness of this evening plus there will be live music, street art and a whole array of food and bevvies to celebrate. Count us in.

Feb 13th- 2016 Chinatown Adelaide Lunar New Year Street Party. It’s the year of the monkey! To us that spells fun! Absorb the sights, smells and sounds of the Chinese new year. There will be stalls, exhibitions, performances and of course the famed lion dance. It’ll be one to get your heart racing, your feet dancing and your mouth watering.

Feb 14th- Valentines Day. Ahhh it’s the day for the lovers. See our full guide to Valentines day (including where to eat, what to do and what to buy) here. And if you’re a single pringle? Invite your friends over. Grab a bottle of SA wine and SA made chocolates and spend it with your faves.

Feb 14th- Ignite Unley, Free Outdoor Cinema. If you’re wanting to spend the afternoon out, but not do anything TOO mushy head to Heywood Park for a free outdoor cinema! Grab a picnic rug and your favourite bottle of wine (SA made of course!) and snuggle up for an evening watching The Intouchables once the sun goes down. There’s going to be live music and food available from plenty of brilliant local businesses.

Feb 16th- Level One Opening. The wait is over kids. Our faves at Electra House have been working tirelessly to create a new, fresh and ever so suave new restaurant. Come Feb 16 you’ll be able to behold Level One. If you want to a sneak peek beforehand keep your eye on the Glam page. We’ll be heading in for a media launch the week before, we’ll be sure to fill you in on all the best dishes!

Feb 19th- Lunch with Sam Kekovich (AFL Footy Season Launch) Kick of the 2016 footy season in style with the president of Lamb himself, Sam Kekovich. The event runs from 12-3pm and includes a three course lunch and ALL drinks. Sounds like an arvo full of laughs and probably some controversy too!

Feb 19th- KIS in the Garden. This is the second installation of this fabulous event run by the superstars from Kangaroo Island Spirits. You can be taken on a botanical gin journey through Adelaide Botanic Garden with legendary John, distiller and owner of KIS. you get to enjoy the stunning gardens after the gates have been closed to the public and with a DJ and a pop-up gin bar it’s the recipe for the perfect evening. Devastatingly this event has sold out BUT they’re hosting another on March 4th.

Feb 19th- Arrival. Get in and amongst some inspiring young South Australians for a night of networking. The Art Gallery of SA will be the stunning backdrop for Adelaide’s young entrepreneurs to come together and connect. Throughout the night SA businesses and startups will showcase their work within one of the city’s most inspiring spaces. Just in case you needed more inspiration to grab your ticket, there will also be some mighty fine food, wine and entertainment.

Feb 20th- Day Club ADL 0002. Some of Adelaide’s coolest DJs and kids in the know have come together to create a series of classy (that perhaps could lead to messy) events. They’re all about good music, great locations and good times. The second edition is set to be an evening party in the stunning Riverbank Precinct. With SA’s very own Flamingo headlining with the backdrop of the Torrens River it’s gonna be one beautiful balmy night.

Feb 21st- Gilles Street Market #141. Spend your Sunday enjoying one of Adelaide’s premier markets. Full of so much awesomeness, you could be here all day. Sorry bank account.

Feb 25th- Bird In Hand Wine Dinner At Walkers Arms. Not only does Bird In Hand make one of our fave Adelaide sparkling wines, they’ve also got a fabulous range of other vinos you may not have had the pleasure of trying. Get along to one of SA’s loveliest beer gardens and enjoy a five course meal paired with BIH. We’re hanging on for the Big Shed Brewing Co Apple Cherry Cider Sorbet… um, yes.

Feb 26- Mar 14- Adelaide Festival. This truly exceptional Festival has been running for more than 50 years now and has put our state on the map. The array of inspiring, challenging and entertaining artists and performers that have been on show across that time have been incredible, and this season is set to be no different. The coming together of art from around the globe at this very Festival has been the forefront in SA being known as ‘The Festival State’. There are perfomances of all kinds, workshops, theatre, music and so much more to absorb. Plus this year there are plenty of ‘Fast Fine Dines’ for those wanting to indulge in dinner and a show.

Feb 26-28- Cellar Door Festival. Probably the wine festival to end all wine festivals. Why? Because it’s in a super convenient inner city location. It has more than, wait for it… One hundred and eighty wineries and producers sampling their stocks, cooking demonstrations, masterclasses, tastings, performances, a food court, cooking classes from top chefs, meet the maker classes and so much more that it’s hard to mention. We literally attended all 3 days last year and still wanted more! Raise your glass, we can’t wait.

Feb 27th- Adelaide Tomato Battle. Our answer to La Tomatina Festival. It’s a first for SA and we’re certain it’ll bring a day of absolute hilarity. And hey for those nay-sayers out there talking about food waste… The tomatoes used are actually marked for disposal or are rotting in fields. No food that is actually edible will be used. So battle away!

Feb 27th- Lexus of Adelaide Presents the ‘Modern Masters’ Champagne Dinner with The Champagne Dame. Talk about sophistication. This is going to easily be one of the most elegant events SA has seen. Five of the best champagnes in the market will be matched with exquisite food from the chefs at Pranzo. Where do we sign up?

Feb 27th- Adelaide Vegan & Foodie Picnic #6. Where are our vegan friends at? This is installation number 6 of the vegan foodie picnic and if the previous five are anything to go by, you won’t want to miss this. Even if you’re not a vegan, it’s still a great afternoon experiencing something different and learning new things about food. If you can’t make it but would love to try some vegan treats in SA check out our vegan guide to Adelaide here

Feb 28th- Port Rocks. What’s better than a whole day of live music across various locations in Port Adelaide? A free day of live music of course. With eight locations involved, plus a pin-up fashion competition and a classic car show too. It’s a great family day out.

Feb 28th- 2016 Double Shot Coffee Fiesta. Caffeine addicts rejoice, this one is for you. With coffee stalls from whizzes at Bar 9, C.R.E.A.M and Nutrition Republic plus many more we are literally bouncing in our seats (maybe that’s the coffee though?). Free coffee tastings, an interactive brew bar hosted by Monastery Coffee, caffeinated cocktails, cold brew, a chill out lounge and ice cold beer, wine and cider thanks to our friends at The Unley. But that’s not all! Gourmet food, live music and children’s activities will all be available too. Yes, we accept.

Feb 29th- Mollydooker Wine Dinner at Windy Point Restaurant. Joining one of our favourite SA wines with one of our favourite SA restaurants. What more could we want!? Well the incredible view definitely helps too. It’s going to be an amazing five course degustation in the restaurant, clearly paired with Mollydooker wines (we pray our fave Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz is in the mix!). Although we also can’t wait to get our hands (and lips) around the new 2014 Velvet Glove, if it’s anything like Blue Eyed Boy we’re about to fall in love!

Anytime in Feb:

Story City- Did you know Adelaide is one of only three places in the world in which you can experience the city via real-life choose-your-own adventure story?! Because that’s pretty rad. Thanks to Renewal SA, Story City is releasing its third Adelaide story, The Treasure of Light on Wednesday 10 Feb. Download the app on your smart phone to wander through the city choosing your own ending to the tale, whilst avoiding the dastardly Percy Graves and trying to find Colonel Light’s hidden treasure. So much fun for kids and adults alike.

Lobo Cider- If you’d prefer to sit back, relax and enjoy the weather on your back deck this Feb, by all means don’t let us stop you! We’d strongly recommend sipping on the cool Adelaide Hills Lobo Cider whilst doing so though. You won’t regret it.

Claymore Wines- If cider ain’t your thing but you’re still in need of a wind-down beverage may we suggest a vino from Claymore Wines? If you join up to their wine club right now you can go into the draw to win 2 tickets to the UK to see Liverpool United play. Yes please!

Burger Foundry- After all the excitement and events of this month you’ll hardly have time to get cooking! So why not swing by your nearest Burger Foundry and indulge in an Aussie Berenberger or Jamaican Jerk burger. Droooooool. There are also treats like milkshakes, ribs and fries You’re waistline may not thank us but your tastebuds certainly will!

Happy February folks!
