Glam Got A Glimpse Of New York Fashion Week…

One of our team just happened to be in New York City for Fashion Week… it’s a tough life. Find out how our Australian designers fared on the runway.

New York Fashion Week seems like a myth; an ultra-glam fashion mecca which has been held since its initial creation in 1943 by Eleanor Lambert, the press director of the American Fashion Industry’s first promotional organisation, the New York Dress Institute.

As the very first “Fashion Week” in the world, the aim of the event (then called “Press Week”) was to take the attention away from Parisian Couture during World War II, when many of the fashion insiders could not travel to Paris for the big shows. It was also aimed at coaxing fashion journalists to focus on what was being presented by American designers, who felt they were being neglected.

Come to 2016, and now Australian’s are making their impression with 20 of top and up and coming designers including Adelaide’s Stephanie Chehade, Cristahlea, homebodii, Sui Generis and Milanja showcasing their designs on the catwalks for the fifth season. This opportunity in invaluable. Sharing the week with the likes Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, DKNY, Tom Ford, Vera Wang and Rachel Zoe to name a few isn’t just inspiring, it’s positioning that makes buyers take note.

This year’s NYFW Australian showcase was been put together by Fashion Palette, an Australian fashion agency who have made it their mission to include Aussies on international platforms. This year the potential to make a major impact was huge, positioned as the opening runway to the entire week. And our labels did us proud.

The who’s-who of fashion seated at the Pier 59 Studios in the Chelsea Piers of Manhattan appeared absolutely blown away by the fabulous gowns, caftans and swimwear in magnificently bright colours and showstopping, sleek white pieces. Ignore Australian fashion at your peril it seems.

Glam Adelaide were lucky enough to be in the room watching our designer’s showcase, with particular love shown to Adelaide’s own Stephanie Chehade, who will be a part of our own Adelaide Fashion Festival runways this October.
