Glam Adelaide’s Guide To October Events

So, what’s in store? Here are some events rolling over from last month:

September 17 – October 2 OzAsia Festival We mentioned last month that you needed to check out the OzAsia Festival, if you haven’t already yet we highly suggest you do! Indulge in an all sensory visit down Asia’s backstreets of theatre, dance, music, film, talks and visual art and experience the cultural phenomena of Asia. September 21 – October 12 Lavazza Italian Film Festival Last month we saw the first Italian-Australian co-production screening and the mid festival party of the Lavazza Italian Film Festival at the Palace Nova. Wrapping up the festival, the palace will screen the Oscar-winning Hollywood classic Roman Holiday, sailing away the night with Aquilani Pinot Grigio and Sangiovese, Connoisseur Gourmet Ice Cream and live music. September 24 – October 24  Ellen Street Restaurant re-opening McLaren Vale is a gasconade of beautiful vineyards wedged through hill stacks and coastal clifftops, it makes for the perfect location for Maxwell wines Ellen Street Restaurant. After some serious and much needed revamping, Ellen St. will reopen its doors with a fresh vibrancy overlooking the vineyards, a new seasonal menu spying estate grown produce and local Fleurieu artisan cheeses, garden fresh fruits and vegetables as well as FREE wine to compliment their degustation menu special! Here’s a peek at some of their amazing dishes.

September 30 – October 2 Ceduna Oysterfest Set to be nothing but spectacular, the Ceduna Oysterfest is a showcase of Far West Coast hospitality in entertainment, activities, competitions and obviously some slimy, delectable, shucking amazing oysters. If you’re up for a real country treat, you can bet the sights of some carnival amusement, oyster shuck and eat competitions and the Kids Iced Coffee Hold.

September 30 – October 3 Semaphore Music Festival The Semaphore Foreshore Reserve is set for vibrancy of boutique music and arts, presenting South Australian homegrown original music over the weekend. Held annually, the event will see craft beer and wine, food trucks, carnival rides for the kids, and a showcase of emerging artists who will perform over the weekend. October 1 2KW & Glam Adelaide Present: Frocks over Footy While the boys are cracking stubbies and placing bets on the footy finals you could be elsewhere, getting too Glammed to give a damn. Yes, there is an actual event happening, 2KW & Glam Adelaide is hosting Frocks Over Footy. If you couldn’t possibly bear sitting through another monotonous game of athletes running around the field with a ball in their hand and you’d rather be out sipping on champers, Frocks over footy was basically made for you. Check out our five reasons why you need to attend frocks over footy here – still a draft article so I can’t put in a link.

October 1 Saskia Beer’s Market Tour and Long Lunch Saskia Beer is hosting a market tour and cooking demonstration each Saturday at the Barossa Farmers Market. If you have a spare few hours, Saskia invites you to join her in an artisan food production and demonstration, followed by a shared table long lunch afterwards. October 1-31 Clare With Fresh Eyre South Australia’s Clare Valley and Eyre Peninsula regions are teaming up this October to celebrate Clare Valley Riesling and Eyre Peninsula seafood. Awesome! The month long union will feature 18 separate events, including the main showcase event at Sevenhill Cellars on Saturday 22 October from 11.00am until 4.00pm. October 2-3 Spring Affair Festival Celebrating the bud of spring with food, wine and music, McLaren Vale’s Spring Affair Festival is the perfect way to spend the long weekend. Showcasing three of the Vale’s spectacular wineries, this is definitely the perfect send off to those colder months. Maxwell Wines will be hosting its ‘party in the park’, with the highlight being the Oyster & Bubbles Bar as well as food from renowned chef Andre Cucina, Coriole Vineyards will see celebrity chef Poh Ling Yeow and Coriole chef Tom Reid in the kitchen putting on a show of fresh seasonal foods and Paxton Wines, who will centralise attention to a variety of food trucks including Taste of Spain and Coffee and Crepes for something sweet. October 2 Vineside For those of you who need to ‘kick off the Sunday shoes’ and get re-invented footloose, FunRays present ‘Vineside’. Held out in the vines of Alpha Box & Dice, McLaren Vale, this event is basically one big dance party out under the October Moon, add some booze and mandatory alcohol induced hunger type of food and you’ve got Vineside. October 2 Afternoon Delights at Shottesbrooke Shottesbrooke is kicking of October with a glorious day of fabulous food, wine and music. If Spring Affair is off the cards and you’re after something a little slower paced, they’ll be putting on some chilled out tunes in the garden, alongside The Currant Shed who will be serving up tasty festival fare. October 3 Hains & Co Plantation Rum Masterclass Join The Admiral on the first public holiday where the sun will be shining that we can recall, where the rum will be flowing. This is a celebration of Plantation rum with special guests from Trailer Hapiness (Notting Hill, UK) who will be working alongside our crew members creating the rebirth of the Tiki Cocktail!

October 6 Discover Rwanda With Dr Carla Litchfield One for the intrepid travellers. Dr Litchfield has led tours for Peregrine Travel to Uganda (chimps & gorillas), Tanzania (chimps at Dr Jane Goodall’s site at Gombe), and Borneo (orangutans) to visit responsible tourism projects and research/conservation sites with proceeds going to the conservation projects we visit. Discover Rwanda on this 17 day tour departing from Adelaide, fully escorted by Dr. Carla Litchfield. October 7 Light the Night Brighten up lives this October by walking in solidarity with thousands of communities across Australia who will raise a lantern in remembrance of loved ones and support those in their own journey of living with blood cancer. October 7 Fashion Fridays @ Hotel Richmond ZeZe Boutique will be the main feature of the upcoming Fashion Friday at Hotel Richmond. Always a great place to unwind after the working week and snap up a bargain!

October 7- 8 Little Big Shots Film Festival ACCM presents Little Big Shots: Australia’s International Film Festival for Kids in Adelaide. Featuring short films from all over the world, the festival will provide entertainment before and after each film, including youth circus Cirkids and other performances for the little ones to enjoy.

October 11 Wild Earth Travel Seminar Join Aaron from Wild Earth Travel as he showcases their incredible cruises — Small Ships, Big Adventure! Aaron Russ, the Founder of Wild Earth Travel is one of THE WORLD’S foremost experts on small ship and expedition cruising.He spent a childhood like no other travelling on small ships every holiday to the Sub-Antarctic Islands, New Zealand and Antarctica. October 11-30 Rumpelstiltskin – State Theatre Company This story tells the spinning tale of turning straw into beautiful things, but as they say, money can’t buy all, and therefore comes ultimate price of greed. If you’re looking for a little nostalgia through fairytale, the state theatre company takes on Rumpelstiltkin with their unique brand of theatrical spectacular, pumping music, extravagant performance and supreme silliness.

October 14 Festival of Now The Festival of Now highlights the issue of mental health. Enlivening Adelaide’s Light Square during World Mental Health week, the festival brings the mental health community together to showcase creativity used in the healing journey and break down the stigma of mental illness. With stalls promoting arts in health, healthy eating and performances the Festival of Now is a positive event creating a wider understanding of mental health in the community.

October 15 Day Of Rosé @ 2KW  There is no better way to celebrate the coming of spring, than with an afternoon of Rosé.  2KW have put together the perfect day of food and wine with the following wineries; Longview, Hentley Farm, Hewitson, Bird In Hand, Mitolo, The Lane, Chateau Des Ferrages and Pierre-Henri Morel. $90 includes all food and beverages, including a pintox and charcuterie bar, and live entertainment. October 15 Oktoberfest in the Gardens Toasting to the traditions of Bavarian beer and love of German foods, Oktoberfest in the Garden is timely to the sunshine and the green gardens of Adelaide. Although it certainly helps in beer chugging ruckus, you certainly don’t need to be German to celebrate. The event will feature Australia’s largest ever beer hall, authentic German food stalls, roving performers, sideshow alley, silent disco and an eclectic mix of entertainment and competitions across multiple stages throughout the afternoon and evening.

October 15-16 Paracombe’s Spring Cellar Door Weekend Join the award winning team at Paracombe for a weekend of food and wine, plus your chance to be the first to try their new vintage releases, as well as and hard to find Paracombe wines from their range. There will also be art by local Kath O’Callaghan and stunning views across the winery garden, vineyard and views to Mt Lofty. Seriously, perfect.

October 16 Amazing Race at Mile End If you think you’ve got what it takes to compete in the Amazing Race, here’s your chance to prove it. Teams will navigate their way around the Mile End Stadium and surrounds to find and complete a range of challenges in a bid to be crowned SA champions for 2016.

October 17 De Lisio Wines Pop Up Cellar Door The De Lisio Wines cellar door emerges just a few times a year at the McLaren Vale Visitor Centre, so take the opportunity to taste through their range, discuss the wines, and pick up some stock for your wine rack, at great prices. On show are their boutique premium wines, packed with character, created from McLaren Vale’s flagship varieties. Wine available for purchase by the glass or bottle, and can be enjoyed with a full café menu and tasting plates. Nestle into the rustic, rammed-earth cellar door, or relax on the covered deck overlooking the sweeping manicured lawns and the rolling hills of The Vale.

October 19-23 Adelaide Fashion Festival It’s the event we’ve all been hearing about for months while we patiently sit still and wait, and its finally come around! Celebrating innovation of South Australian design and style, Mercedes-Benz Adelaide presents The Adelaide Fashion Festival. Showcasing both established and up-and-coming Adelaide designers across 20 events over 5 days, the show anticipates a mania of fashion in world-class setting. See Glam’s program reveal here.

October 20 Yalumba Wine Dinner @ The Kensi A stunning evening prepared by the chefs at The Kensi will walk you through four course, paired with a generous selection of the Yalumba wine range. Book now on 8332 1300.

October 21 Henschke Spring Banquet You are invited to be among the first to taste Henschke’s spring release wines including the much-anticipated 2012 Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon (that’s a 97 Point rated wine) over a modern Chinese banquet at Concubine, featuring fresh local produce and showcasing the best of South Australia’s food scene. The evening will feature a four-course banquet and 10 matching wines presented by the Henschke family, and the dress code is cocktail. October 21-23 Fleurieu Folk Festival Celebrating contemporary and traditional folk music over three days, The Fleurieu Folk Festival parades over 50 of the best local, interstate and international folk musicians covering traditional, acoustic, celtic, blues, roots and bluegrass live. Along with workshops, sessions, dancers, blackboard concerts and children’s entertainment, there’ll be local food, wine and market stalls, there’s something for everyone!

October 21-23 Adelaide Festival Of Ideas Over two days and three evenings this festival will bring together thought provoking speakers from around Australia and the world and mix them in exciting ways: scientists of all kinds, policy wonks, philosophers, social and environmental activists, journalists, former politicians, historians, architects, economists, educationalists, theologians and diverse futurists. Erin Brockovich (yes, the Erin Brockovich) is the keynote speaker and most events are free to attend.

October 23 Champagne Festival We told you this month was basically one big booze fest and we weren’t lying, although this one’s a little more classy, so trade the stubbies for some flutes and get going. Indulge in French Champagne and stunning Australian Sparkling wines from the greatest of regions as the National Wine Centre feed you with locally sourced seafood and fresh produce, while chilling out on our garden terrace listening to live music. October 23 Stirling Laneways Village Market Day We’re told it’s all about getting down and dirty at the monthly Stirling markets, so follow your feet through the lanes and side-streets of Stirling to discover seed-sowing workshops, a convergence of artists and entertainers, pop-up stalls and local traders opening up their shopfronts and taking their wares onto the street, check it out.

October 28 21 Glasses Lunch @ Esca Do you like the idea that you can live like a King or Queen while others also benefit from our events? Who doesn’t! Join this intimate winemaker lunch supporting charity while overlooking the Marina at Glenelg. October 29 Adelaide Gaol Halloween Horror Party Prepare yourselves for a whole new level of fear and brace yourself for the scariest game of hide and seek you will ever play. This is definitely not for the faint hearted so get ready to run, hide and scream! For those who make it out alive, party away your nerves with special guest DJ Felicity Aukett and food from Cheesy Street, Fat Fork and Papas Hotdogs.

October 29-30 Oktoberfest Celebrations at Glenelg The big tent is coming to the Glenelg foreshore out front of the Stamford Grand this October. Despite the reputation of Ocktoberfest in town, this is in fact a family friendly event with children under 17 free. If you are of age though, then a $49 ticket will be you your own stein, a free fill of beer, and access to traditional Greman food, drink, and entertainment.

October 30 Fearless High Tea for The Cure4CF Foundation Join the Intercontinental Adelaide for some high tea as they host The Cure4CF Foundation’s Fearless High Tea event. The Cure4CF Foundation focuses on research for Cystic Fibrosis, with all funds raised from the event going towards future research trials. The event will include bubbles, silent auctions, entertainment, and nibbles along with guest speakers and 2012 The Voice Finalist, Sarah Lloyde singing on the day.
