Gear up for Tour Down Under With The Unley Gourmet Gala

Cycling enthusiasts, families, foodies and fashionistas set to descend on King William Rd for the annual Unley Gourmet Gala.

Cycling enthusiasts, families, foodies and fashionistas will descend on King William Road for the annual Unley Gourmet Gala on Monday, January 16, 2016.

For the first time ever, the City of Unley will host the Hostworks Stage 1 Start of the Santos Tour Down Under and the popular Gala event will be held the night before.

The Gala is one of Adelaide’s most prestigious community events and transforms King William Road into an exciting outdoor gourmet experience showcasing some of South Australia’s finest food, wine, fashion, music and entertainment.

City of Unley Mayor Lachlan Clyne said more than 30,000 people are expected to attend the event, which was a highlight on Adelaide’s event calendar each year.

“We’re proud to say the Unley Gourmet Gala is the longest running event held in conjunction with the Santos Tour Down Under and will celebrate its seventeenth year in 2017. Given we’re hosting the Stage 1 Start, the Gala will set the tone for an exhilarating week of competition between the world’s most elite cyclists,” Mr Clyne said.

“Thousands of locals and interstate visitors alike flock to King William Road for this incredible event each year to celebrate the vibrant cycling culture in the City of Unley and beyond. It’s also a wonderful opportunity for retailers and restaurants to showcase their finest gourmet produce, wine and fashion at a lively street party.”

The free family-friendly event will feature cooking demonstrations by ‘The Internet Chef’ Bridget Davis and fun children’s activities in the Boffa Street Kids’ Zone, including bike-themed face painting, a silent disco and craft activities.

In another first, there will be a Multicultural Stage featuring entertainment from a diverse range of international performers.

In addition to more than 30 gourmet food stalls offering a variety of cuisines, King William Road restaurants will extend their dining areas right out onto the street so that diners can soak up the event atmosphere.

Fashion parades will feature clothing and accessories from King William Road’s premier fashion designers and retailers. Featured boutiques will include Elizabeth V, Liza Emanuele, My House My Home, Moveover Menswear, Denim + Cloth, Coltish, Limited 108, The Ark, Designer Exchange, Anastasia Bridal Couture, Cable Melbourne and Flourish Gift and Home.

The Unley Gourmet Gala will be held on Monday, January 16, from 4pm-10pm. The Hostworks Stage 1 Start of the Santos Tour Down Under will be held on King William Road on Tuesday, January 17, at 10.30am with the peloton heading to Lyndoch.
