Cricket clubs and players across South Australia can now apply for funding to help improve facilities and assist in the development of strategic plans for growth.
Under the South Australian Cricket Association’s Facilities Grant Program, up to $100,000 is available to distribute to help Grade cricket club facility improvements in 2013/14, as well as grants of up to $5000 for community clubs to develop their cricket-related facilities. Within the Grade funding program, money has been allocated to help Grade clubs develop strategic plans, this includes feasibility studies and/or a master plan for the construction of new playing facilities/home ground.
Last year, 67 clubs and associations received funding from the program, with many using it to fund projects, including new covers for turf wickets, new artificial wickets, netting for practice wickets and sightscreens.
The funding confirms SACA’s commitment to increase participation and inspire the next generation of cricketers and fans.
SACA Chief Executive, Keith Bradshaw, said the funding process, which opened today, would help deliver strong competitions in SA, and boost facilities across the state.
“SACA’s funding initiative is part of a strategy to protect and improve cricket’s facilities by increasing utilisation and partnering with other bodies,” he said.
“Providing funding to improve ageing facilities supports the growth strategies SACA has put in place for South Australia’s metropolitan and regional regions.” Projects which include financial contributions from cricket clubs, the Office for Recreation and Sport and/or local councils will be given priority.
The funding streams are:
Grade cricket:
• Facility Planning Projects – includes feasibility studies and/or a master plan for the construction of new playing facilities/home ground (closes 5pm, October 18, 2013)
• Facility Development Projects – includes the upgrade of playing pitches, practice pitches and/or the playing surface (closes 5pm, October 18, 2013)
Community cricket:
• Club Facilities Grant Program; up to $5,000 (closes October 21, 2013)
• Club Artificial Turf Grants; up to $2,500 (closes October 21, 2013)
Proposed facility improvement projects must be linked to increased opportunities for cricket participation, including enhancing the delivery of junior and senior programs. Projects could include cricket wickets, turf pitches, pitch covers, artificial turf for practice nets or oval wicket surface, shade structures for players, or towards change-rooms/clubrooms.
