If Matilda The Musical taught us anything it’s that sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty. luckily four-time former Adelaide Festival artistic director, David Sefton, is bringing us (and our kids) the chance to be a little bit naughty at Grounded this Fringe with arty fun things to do, touch, hear, smell and see!

Grounded is a brand new pop-up precinct during the Adelaide Fringe 2018 is opening Friday 16 February and running until Sunday 25th February 2018 inVictoria Square/Tarntanyangga, aimed at kids 3-10 years of age.

From what we hear, Grounded is all about being in the heart of Adelaide in summer and connecting young people and their adults to great experiences – a music festival, a film screening, theatre shows, interactive art installations, and great participatory workshops to name a few! There are plenty of free activities at Grounded along with great value and affordable event ticket prices for individuals, families, and groups.

Grounded is the creative concept of David Sefton, the four-time artistic director of the Adelaide Festival and Unsound Adelaide and Insite Arts, the Adelaide-based producers of Unsound and MONA’s Festival of Music and Art MONA FOMA in Tasmania.

Grounded boasts some of the most kid-friendly shows this Fringe, including The Secret Life Of SuitcasesChildren’s Cheering Carpet, and an exclusive free outdoor screening of the movie Girl Asleep. It also boasts the interactive Megaphone Project – an interactive collection of red megaphones of many shapes and sizes. There will also a participatory installation where children can help to weave a large-scale structure reflecting the idea of home, incorporating indigenous storytelling, and more.

Wrapping up Grounded will be a family music festival titled Supermassive, and it most definitely seems like it’ll live up to that title!

Headlining the Supermassive lineup will be highly acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter Sarah Blasko in an exclusive performance featuring songs from her brand new sixth studio album “Depth Of Field”. Sarah’s genre-defining indie-rock and art-pop have made her a three-time ARIA Award winner including gongs for Best Pop Release (2007), Best Female Artist (2009) and Best Adult Alternative Album (2016). “Depth Of Field” will be released nationally on February 23rd, 2018.

The closing festival will also feature Heaps Good Friends, Adam Page, 13 year old Australian slam poet champion Solli Raphael, and DJ TR!P, with more artists to be announced soon.

Set to be 2018’s coolest one-stop family Fringe precinct will also offer an amazing array of delicious local food and beverages through a partnership with Adelaide Central Market traders. In a reminder to “slip, slop, slap, seek & slide” Grounded will provide several shaded areas suitable for families to enjoy the fun during the heat of the summer days… stay cool is the only rule at Grounded!
