It’s been 15 years since veteran Canadian playwright and actor TJ Dawe came to the Adelaide Fringe with his celebrated one-man shows, Labrador and Tired Cliches, and he finally returns with two new shows at the Bakehouse Theatre beginning this weekend.

TJ has earned a name for himself as one of the top draws in fringe festivals across Canada and the US for the last eighteen years. He co-created and directed the One Man Star Wars Trilogy, and One Man Lord of the Rings, both of which have toured here, along with Fringe favourite, 52 Pick-Up, which has returned multiple times over the years. His play Toothpaste and Cigars was recently released as the feature film What If, starring Daniel Radcliffe.

After participating in one hundred theatre festivals in North America, TJ now returns to Adelaide for the first time since 2000 with two shows: Medicine, opening this weekend, followed by Marathon in the third week of the Fringe.

Medicine is an autobiographical monologue about a retreat he attended, involving the ingestion of the Peruvian shamanic psychotropic plant medicine ayahuasca – which puts you in touch with your deepest pain, and makes you barf your brains out.

Marathon combines stories of having been a terrible long distance runner as a teenager with an account of learning about one’s biggest personal blind spot as an adult.

Medicine, runs 14-21 February 2015
Marathon, runs 2-7 March 2015
Where: Bakehouse Theatre, 255 Angas Street, Adelaide
Tickets: $18-$20
Bookings: Book through FringeTix for both Medicine and Marathon
