Marr powers through topics with wild eyes and with an over-the-top act of enthusiasm that it feels like she is deconstructing comedy.

Zoe Coombs Marr is a regular on the ABC2 show Dirty Laundry Live and brings a hairy, juicy show to the Adelaide Fringe.

Inside the Tuxedo Cat we are again welcomed by a unique warren set-up with small, quirky stages tucked in every corner of the building.

The show kicks off in a uniquely visual manner with Marr dressed in a loose top and a baggy pair of jeans with the boxers riding over the edges. Marr’s face is loaded with hair on her beard, chest and eye brows that doesn’t last until the end of the show. Marr uses her outfit well throughout the entire show to accentuate some of the terrible punchlines and the more sexual topics.

Without warning, fake blood runs down her forehead and drips onto the stage. This is followed by sharing Minties with the crowd and frothy, yellow vomit coming out of Marr when she tries to eat hers. As quickly as the fluids are introduced they disappear out of the show, except for the blood Marr continues to wipe from her eye which becomes distracting to watch by the end.

Marr powers through the topics in an over-the-top act of enthusiasm with her wild eyes punctuating her overall performance. The show is bizarrely structured in a way that it feels like Marr is deconstructing comedy. The deliberate repetition of jokes until they are no longer funny and the reliance on some anti-climactic punchlines deliver a smart commentary on how a typical comedy show works.

The show is rounded out by a Spartacus-inspired moment consisting of numerous men conveniently called “Dave”, who join Marr for a dance routine on stage that finishes the performance on a fun note.

Zoe Coombs Marr is Dave is appearing at the Tuxedo Cat for many shows up until the end of the Fringe Festival.
