Yianni Agisilaou in The Un-Pinchable Pink Pen takes you on a journey of the sexes and explores the fundamental values we place on gender whether it be that little voice in your head of the school yard bully telling you what your actions as an adult say about you or that annoying parent that you over hear say “My son can’t play with that, that’s for girls”. Everyone can relate to gender stereotyping and that’s what makes this show so good. Yianni captures the essence of society and turns double standards into a hilarious sequence of stories with the best having to be his portrayal of how the evacuation of a cruise ship should occur in contrast to the famous Titanic words of “Woman and children first”. Yianni’s description and enthusiastic hand gestures had me picturing a scene similar to Hunger Games with families yelling “May the odds be ever in you favour” as they climbed in their life-rafts.
There are very few comedians that would dare to tackle this subject let alone do it the justice it deserves or with the creative flare it needs to make it comical. This type of talent is something that audiences have come to expect from Yianni with his other two shows Yianni in The Simpsons Taught Me Everything I Know and Comedians Against Humanity being equally fantastic and definite Fringe favorites. Yianni and his shows are no stranger to award nominations and sell out crowds. But best of all, this Pink loving comedian who is happy with his feminine side is making the move back to Australia so hopefully that means we get to see him more regularly rather than having to wait for next year’s Fringe.
If you haven’t seen Yianni yet, don’t despair you still have two nights to catch him and find out why the pink pen is Un-Pinchable. And just in case you really want to soak up the Yianni goodness, treat yourself to Comedians Against Humanity as well and watch Yianni host guest comedians in an interactive show where the audience play the cards and the comedians create the material.
