For a comedy trio, the Trash Test Dummies’ sense of humour is absolute rubbish, which is what makes them so damn funny no matter what your age.
Although billed as a children’s show, the adults laugh just as hard as Jamie Bretman, Jack Coleman and Simon Wright prove that slapslick appeals to all ages and any silliness aimed squarely at kids is matched by a gag that would go right over their heads.
Using wheelie bins as their main prop, the acrobatic trio lift, flip, juggle and balance, all the while living out the playful fantasies of children by turning their bins into hiding places, racing cars, drums and other inventive playthings.
This show is hysterically funny, and their imaginative use of the bins and other props simply add to the circus skills on show.
As a kids’ entertainment, the Trash Test Dummies use lots of audience interaction although none involving anyone getting on stage until the end. There’s balloons and ball fights, interactions with the kids, and nonsense-speak to add to the craziness. In fact, they barely utter a sensible word during the show, successfully relying on their physical talents to carry the show though to the end.
While some reputations last longer than reality, these guys far exceed expectations from beginning to end.
