Fringe Review: Papillon

After a three year run, numerous rave reviews and high expectations, it’s safe to say this show lives up to the hype.

Buckle up! Returning for its fourth and FINAL season is Papillon. An adults-only circus inspired performance filled with acrobats, cabaret and comedy. If you’re like me and haven’t had the opportunity to see it before, now’s your last chance! You’ll be sorry if you miss it.

After a three year run, numerous rave reviews and high expectations, it’s safe to say this show has been one of my favourites. It certainly lives up to the hype.

All the acts tied in perfectly and they executed a truly captivating show. There’s a rawness to the performance and the artists which works in the production’s favour. They seemed to be genuinely having fun with each other on the stage and the audience – you couldn’t help but smile. Small quirks help to emphasise the connection between the performers and their work.

It’s hard to pick one favourite act as they were all so unique and equally amazing. There were a few minor hiccups but the team played it off really well. There’s plenty of banter, witty jokes and slapstick comedy. Well-timed expressions and audience interaction help keep the show flowing nicely.

Leave the kids at home for this one. There’s definitely some nudity and swearing.
