Fringe Review: It Was Worth The Weight

David Gauci is an engaging performer, one who has little trouble holding an audience’s attention. Even when struggling with a less that perfect voice (post bronchitis) he gives his all. He may have started with a frog in his throat, but that quickly ceased to matter as he told his engaging story of his time as a wedding singer. Accompanied by the talented Josh Belperio, David gave us some of the inappropriate numbers he was asked to sing at weddings and amused us with his anecdotes and interesting insights.

The venue was a little warm but not uncomfortably so and the space lends itself well to cabaret. The City of Unley made the patrons welcome with a facsinating array of small cakes and ample tea and coffee, all designed to make the afternoon as pleasant as possible.

The show also examines the fact that David is not consumed by the fact that people see his weight as a problem, he doesn’t. It got him to where he is and that’s fine. This is a return show, one that David has presented before. I was disappointed that I was unable to get to the earlier version of this, but I can assure David, it was worth the wait.
