Talk about value for money! Adelaide comedian Steve Weyland’s show Isn’t That … What’s His Name? is essentially three shows for the price of one.

Weyland’s major theme for this production is the fact that he bears an uncanny resemblance to film star/stud George Clooney and, like Mr Clooney, has appeared in films (all right, as a stunt man) and commercials (yes, all right, as an extra).

The first part is a barrage of very funny rapid fire one-liners to warm us up and let us see what a nice guy Weyland is. His manner is very laid back and friendly and just right for the venue.

The second part is a routine based around Sir David Atten-Borrow. The start involves the attention and affections of a female Big Foot, feels a little flat (caused perhaps by big feet?) and doesn’t come up to the standard of the rest of the show’s material. The second half of this anthropological routine, discussing Adelaide’s inconsistencies and comparing it to Melbourne, is hilarious, and disturbingly true.

Lastly, Weyland entertains his audience with amusing anecdotes of his film career with the South Australian Film Corporation in its heyday – the Seventies.

Interspersed throughout the performance are many uproarious send-ups of a certain big-money film star’s commercial for a well known coffee emporium; and a sneak peak at a ‘bad boy’ George hosting his own TV talk show (why not, everyone else is doing it), Cloney’s Couch – definitely a show South Park would be proud of.

Isn’t That … What’s His Name is a great little comedic diversion and wonderfully local. It also proves what a big heart this comedian has – fifty percent of any profit made will be donated to the Leukaemia Foundation. Maybe Mr Clooney would like to match the offer!
