Flamenco Tablao: Bringing that little bit of Spain to Adelaide

Riveting, passionate, fast-paced and electric are but a few adjectives you might use to describe Flamenco, and all of them are on show this Adelaide Fringe at our very own slice of Spain, Flamenco Tablao

Don’t let the modest set up inside The Speakeasy at Gluttony fool you, your attention will be entirely devoted to watching the three mesmerising dancers each take to the stage. With an astonishing level of speed and skill, Rosalie Cocchiaro, Jessica Statham and Chachy Penalver leave naught but a dust cloud looming and a sense of wonder at how feet can move so fast they almost look like they aren’t moving at all. While your eyes are telling you one thing your ears are telling you something else with the sound of the shoes striking the stage. Unlike some other traditional dance forms, the overwhelming and all consuming passion, famously associated with flamenco, is evident on the faces of the dancers. Everything is tuned to precision with these lovely ladies, from the beautiful wave of the traditional skirt to the snap into an arched position at the same exact timed strike of the floor. Flowing material against rigid form.

Accompanied by the beautiful singing of Naike Ponce, direct from Spain following the release of her debut album, and apparently impromptu ‘dance of the moment’ inspired guitar of Damian Wright ensure that no two shows are the same, but also gives the shows an incredibly raw feel which can easily transport you to feel like you are at a local neighbourhood fiesta in Spain.

The end result is a tumultuous and exciting display of passionate Spanish traditional culture you are unlikely to see anywhere else and it is wonderful.

Quickest and best value for money trip to Spain available.

Goosebumps a-plenty.
